Electric Window Weirdness

Featured Replies

Hiya guys, this is a weird one. I went to get into my car for work this morning and to my

horror, all the electric windows were fully down!! I know i locked the car up when i last used it on sunday aft so

i'm completey baffled. Is this a fault or a function of the Octy vrs tdi pd's central locking/security system?

It's the first time its happened and i'm sure i didn't press the keyfob before i went to the car this morning.

There were no signs of break-in etc...

Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas? Bit worrying as i could have had my car ransacked/vandalised/soaked with rain. :(

Cheers

This normally happens when you press and hold the unlock button on your keyfob.

Are you sure there is no way someone could have pressed the button by mistake?

Pressing and holding the key unlock button will cause all of the windows to open. Conversely holding the lock button will close all of the windows.

I did manage to get something odd on mine once where when I locked the doors as normal, all of the windows used to open!

I reset this (I think) by opening and closing the doors as normal with the key.

Its not a fault, was covered on here a few weeks ago. My wife did it on my FL Octy, also did the same on Mk1 and my old BMW 325

It happens if you hold the lock button down too long, or more likely it gets operated by accident in a pocket or hand bag.

I believe dealers can programme out the function

I'm pretty sure but i suppose i get up v.early and there's a slight possibility i could have pressed it by mistake half asleep. I'm usually

pretty careful about that though. Thought it would have needed sustained pressure holding the button down for more than a quick press?

Ok, maybe i did hold it down by mistake then in my semi-conscious state but i guess if it happens again, without me pressing it down, then there's possibly a problem.

Yep, cheers for this, it hasn't done it again today so i'll see what happens over next day or two.

You have to press the button for a few seconds before the windows start to lower.

You then have to hold the button down for as long as the windows take to lower. As soon as you release the button the windows stop lowering.

If they were all the way down I would guess that the button would have to have been pressed for in excess of 5 seconds.

Maybe is a glitch... one to watch as you don't want them open all night if its lashing it down!

get a scan done on your car and my guess is you have a door lock fault

Cheers for this, its something i'll look into. There's no way i held that keyfob down for 5 secs, not a chance. Sounds

like it could be a glitch/fault.

fault in one of the door locks
