weird noise

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a fabia 1.9 sdi completely standard.

Apologies for my lack of car knowledge now so...

When i turn the key and the car starts the engine makes a really weird sound, its been like it since new, every now and then like 1/20 times it wont make this sound.

its coming from the engine area, and sounds like a grinding sound possibly?. If nobody knows what it is I will make a sound recording tomorrow to try and get a diagnosis.

Cheers

Hmm is this when the engine actually starts, or when you turn the ignition on before starting?

it is when i start the engine up

Sorry not sure then, thought you might mean the slushy/whirry noise when the fuel system primes on ignition

Do you get the whirring/grinding noise as you turn the ignition and then going on for about a second after the engine kicks in? If so, I had this problem and it needed a new starter motor.

i initially had a whirr after start, which was the starting motor.. havent bothered changing it... however off late, it makes more weird noises lol.. sorta intermittent whirr burr kurr lurrs and ****.. oh well, it drives perfectly well so i dont really care :dull:

I've read on here this is the starter motor bearing.

I dont know what this noise could be but have you got someone who can plug VAG com into it and check for any fault codes? this maybe a good initial diagnosis.
