Fabia Tow Bar Wiring/Connections?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My workmate has just bought a new Fabia 1.2 12V Ambiente and is going to fit his own Tow Bar.

He's an electrical engineer so just needs some specific advice.

Is there a multiplug connector in the boot or is he going to have to scotchlock onto the loom?

If it's option 2 does anyone have the colour coding for the wiring loom to the rear lights?

How does the dashboard trailer warning light work, does it automatically detect the trailer is connected, does it need a current sensing relay fitting if so where, or is it an external relay and wiring job?

Getting the dash light working is better than the annoying buzzer on the DIY kits.

Thanks in advance.

Lee

If the Fabia is anything like my old Octy, or Superb...the loom is a plug in affair, plugging into both rear lights.

The uprated flasher relay will be needed, which should be the hazard switch assembly..again just unplug the old and plug in the new.

As for the dash light, my old Octy had the trailer indicator which was activated after the uprated flasher unit was plugged in and trailer electrics attatched, but the newer Superb doesnt have a trailer dash indicator, or buzzer. It simply flashes double speed..when you have the trailer connected and the trailer has a bulb failure. So you dont actually know the trailer is connected if its flashing at normal rate.

Apparently this is legal and correct, as I have argued my case on this matter with my dealer and Skoda HQ as I dont feel its right to be warned after failure not that its connected.

But that is the way Skoda do it. I hope the Fabia is different.

ps...my handbook shows a dash trailer indicator lamp, but with the usual rider that not all functions apply in all countries.

Thanks.

So do Skoda supply a trailer loom that plugs between the standard loom and rear lights?

Cheers
