Audible arm/disarm "chirps"

Featured Replies

Recently bought a new facelift 59 plate Ocatvia vrs. Used to get the audible pips with the arm(1 pip) disarm (2 pips) and the corresponding flashing indicators. Now the pips have stopped but the lights still flash. Any suggestions? Is the alarm actually functioning properly?

The alarm should still be working, and if you have maxidot you can turn the chirps back on it you prefer them

No, the siren under the front drivers wing is bust. New one from a skoda dealer £107 , VW £97! that is fitted yourself . Get in the car arm it and wave your arms ,if it doesn't go off it is siren that is bust I know from experience ! Sorry mate

Oh before i forget there is another way to check your alarm ,The drivers door has a red light that illuminates when armed ,it should flash in quick succession then slows to a constant<when ok> if when you arm it it is a constant red light then steady flash it is a Dud siren . Mine did exactly that. It was reassuring to find about this as it is a lot of money to fork out in the hope that it is not something electrical <wiring > the siren itself is a newer and reliable replacement and gives a different chirp .The part no is 1K0 951 605A your faulty one will end in B .Hope this helps

Had a look at the flashing light on the drivers door. All looks good as it flashes 7 times in quick succession and then goes to intermittent, so April Fool as you say siren should be OK? Not tried sittig in the car yet to try and activate it. Where in the maxidot menus is the setting to turn the chirps off or on? Can't find them.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but you're looking for ATA settings

Edit: Just looked in the Manual and it states Comfort Menu --> ATA Confirm

Thanks Raglits. Just checked the menu and the ATA confirm box is checked. Maybe time to sit in and check the alarm is actually working.

Did you use the spare key by any chance?

Both keys are identical that I have. Been using the same key when stopped working. What is your thinking?

the OP has a 59 plate car, it's still covered under warranty?

If I remember correctly, a positive way to test the alarm and the siren is to use the key in the lock to open the door. Then if you don't use the key within 15 seconds in the ignition the alarm will sound until you do.

Went in car and set alarm off. Siren worked and guess what the chirps are back. :-S. Will see how it goes. Cheers.

Just realised I've never heard my car make the 'chirp' sound, checked ATA confirm in maxidot and it is turned on :wonder:

maybe you need to turn it off and on again... Are Microsoft involved in the programming :)

Excellent idea. Just used that to make sure mine works. And so I could here what it sounds like. Just in case I hear it in the middle of the night.

Didn't you read my post ,HELLO IS ANYONE THERE

Did you carry on reading the thread?

The OP has tested his alarm and discovered that it is still working but for some reason the chirp wasn't...

Sorry to butt in; my non Maxidot FL Elegance diesel has never chirped from new. No wish to annoy neighbours by making the car any noisier. The alarm seems to sound a horn and maybe does not have a chirp generator?

VW Passat and Hyundai coupe just clunked shut with a flash of indicators. Mind you the siren on the VW did fail after 120,000 miles.

My pre FL 58 plate car chriped when I picked it up new, told the dealer to turn that off right away! He pluged into computer and all done in about 2min

Is the Alarm standard equipment?

i have the flashy red light on the door, but none of the settings mentioned in the maxidot

also tried opening the door on the key and not put in ignition, nothing happened

mine is a 09 pre FL

hi dallan,

mines a 09 vrs and yes it came with the full alarm system, yours should as well

Thanks for the reply, will check with a dealer here as UK Standard and Irish Standard are not normally the same thing :dull: :dull:

Reading through this has made me go check, the chirps are so quite I don't think it would offend anyone although I've turned mine back off :)

Possibly not. My Pre FL hasn't got the fatory alarm but it was an import so probably depends on market.

To be honest, Clifford CANBUS fitted at £245 is a much better solution anyway............ :-)
