Ipod connection on centre console...Any ideas?

Featured Replies

So I've got my ipod shuffle and a little metal pin that I use to connect the ipod to my home speakers...I've plugged this into the AUX hole in the centre box/arm rest and pressed the Media button on the radio but nothing happens...Any ideas?

Hi Retro gal

Try going into Audio on the maxi dot and enable the aux setting. That worked for me with my mp3 player.

Retro Gal,

Refer to page 12 in the Bolero book;

"Input AUX-IN

– Activate the AUX-IN input in the Setup Setup Media by pressing the

function key "AUX".

– The input for external audio sources AUX-IN is located under the

armrest of the front seats.

– External audio sources, which are connected to the AUX-IN input,

cannot be operated via the radio."

I got it working but I'm not that impressed...The sound quality is not as good as on a CD and the volume is much quieter...Shame you can't operate it via the radio and have to use the ipod controls instead...

Can you now see why everyone is up in arms with SUK giving the entire planet the mdi connection BUT us here in the UK!?

I used to have a thing to connect my iPod via my car's tape deck. And that had a tiny amplifier inside which you need since a 3,5mm audio output is not meant to go to car speakers! Someone that knows more about this will be better explaining why. So see if you can find the same thing: a little amplifier to put between then iPod and the AUX IN.

Hmmm. I've just spoken to a car electronics guy (fitting my parrot car kit) and he said the connection in the glove box isn't direct and is a bit rubbish. Basically, you can get an ipod fitting that connects behind the stereo and apparently the sound quality with that is great. Bit of a joke really as the connection in the glove box should be good enough as some people probably paid extra for the functionality

Hi Retro Girl,

the low volume from your iPod may be improved by selecting a different input level for the Aux input.

Setup / Media / Aux input level. This brings up a box with three levels of input to choose.

Level 1 is the default and the least sensitive input at 1.5v.

Level 2 is 0.7v and Level 3 is the most sensitive input at 0.3v.

Worth a try as it may also improve the quality as well as increasing the volume from the iPod source.

Buy yourself an SD card and download your cds onto that. A bit of a pain that you can't readily download from Itunes but the sound quality is great and the interface with the touchscreen is really straightforward.

I have all my music on a Sd card 8gb (HC Class 6) on start up takes about 15/20 secs to read after that works great, if you change album current track still plays until new information is loaded so is nearly instant switching. I am aware you get different results from different makes and spec of cards, High Capacity (HC) perform better than normal Sd also higher the class normally the quicker the read speeds also you can go up to 32gb in size.

Don't forget the 6 CD changer (MP3) you can get (depending on size) anything from 6 to 10 albums on one CD giving you possibly another 60 albums via the CD

Hi there

Please help- I can't get the SD card to work in my Yeti. Did you have to do anything to the card to get the tracks to play ok? I have got the card to work, but it took about 5 minutes to find a track, and would not go any farther.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

PS I have the Bolero radio and a SDHC card class 6 16gb.

No nothing special just drag and drop from my music to SD card.

Points to be aware of.

Reads only MP3

File names need to be kept short and simple.

My file structure Album Name. Artist. Song.

Make sure no album art is copied over in album

Suggest you try a different card of good quality Scandisk etc, with a few albums on, and see if results improve

Kevin

if you are copying the M4A and M4B files straight out of Itunes then this wont work, the file names must be in MP3 format and have an MP3 file extension. the AAC format songs from itunes are not recognised directly. To see the file exention you may need to enable the option in Windows to allow you to see them (Tools > folder options, untick "Hide extensions of known filetypes")

If they are M4A and M4B then the files must be transcoded to MP3 before being transfered to the SD card, renaming the file wont work.
