Featured Replies

I am currently running Porsche 996T calipers with 350mm discs. Straight bolt on kit but (just) won't go under 17".

strange that though as DaveB the guy you bought yours off has managed to get a set of B7RS6 twinpot 360 mm brakes on one of the admin guys on the mk5 forums car that fit under 17" TD alloys...just

@wilson323f

have a read this thread. the guy who started it is an absolute legend on brakes and has sorted so many guys out with besopoke kits for half the price of big brake kits.

http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,13985.0.html this could be a real good option for you with very cheap replacement Oem discs

Im looking to upgrade my brakes too, mine also a octy 2, where is best place to get the parts and wot would u all recomend.

I don't know what the original disc and calipers are like on the Ambient or 1.9tdi, but you might be able to make use of the standard vRS ones? if so there will be loads in breakers. I'm guessing you could use ones of similar Seat's, VW's etc. Alternatively if they are already the same as the vRS you could opt for Golf r32, Seat Cupra or Audi S3 set ups.

I'm using all four corners from an Audi S3 and for my level of tuning & driving style, these are more than adequate  .

A search on the forum should bring up a few more options.

I was going to suggest some VRS brakes as well. Must be some sets kicking around from VRS owners who have upgraded to S4 etc. brakes.

i was talkin to a guy who does a lot of brake work at his garage and reckons drilled grooved and vented discs with performance pads should stop me more than i need so just gonna go with that.

I've always suffered cracking on drilled disks in the past so ended up avoiding them like the plague. Got for grooved Tarox or something similar.

BTW VRSY - link is stuffed..............

Liking this option a lot

I've just acquired an R32 kit for mine.

Will let you know how I get on with fitting ( I have 17" alloys but have fitted 10mm spacers )

Do you have FSIII (280mm discs) or ATE (288mm) callipers ?

If you have the latter, you can put 312mm carriers and new discs on and use your existing carriers/pads to give you a 312mm brake upgrade at the front.

Works well and you only need VAG 16" or above wheels, so your 17's would be fine.

Here is the thread from when I did mine:

FWIW better pads are a good investment; but grooved discs will just eat the pads quicker and give no real benefit on the road.

If you're really giving it a hard life on track then that's different of course.

£600 + discs for a new set up? Or less if you hunt around on ebay? But you need to be on 18's.

So your talking around £800 or less including everything? That sounds like a good price to me

If i went R32 calipers would mk4 ones fit a octy 2, if so wot else would i need to fit them, eg new carriers etc etc etc,

seen some on e bay but only calipers available...

or would just a decent set of pads n grooved discs be better, im running a stage 1 re map from shark on a 1.9 tdi but suffering bad brake fade...

If you go R32, Cupra or S3 you will find the list of stuff you will need here:

JKM Big Brake Kit

However as other have said (& JKM & some of the Golf MK V forum members state) you "need" 18" wheels for this set up. This guy (Click Here) says he managed to use his with 17", but don't bet on all 17s fitting! Oh & I'm pretty sure the standard steel spare will no longer be of use on the front as i think it's a 16"!

It's not true you need 18" wheels. JKM and Others just advise it to guarantee fitment

My R32 kit came off a car with 17" wheels so they will fit but as you say not all 17" wheels

The 17" Monza wheels are 7.5J x 17 ET51

The 17" Wheels in that Link are 7.0J x 17 ET54

vRS Zeniths are 7.0J x 17 x ET54

So i am hoping my kit will fit. I have also added 10mm spacers just to help. Hopefully i will have an answer next week. I have Spoken to Keith at JKM and they are going to try for me.

Sounds good  .

It will be helpful to know what 17' wheels will fit over these kind of conversions, might help folks in the future. It could be added to the "sticky" on interchangeable parts.
