Main dealer discounts & waiting lists?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm currently in the process of selling my Subaru Impreza P1 and my plan is to buy something a little more sensible which doesn't cost P1 money to run and insure.

The favourite at the moment is a Fabia vRS, but an Octavia with PD130 engine is also a possibility depending on price.

Is it possible to negotiate discounts from main dealers, or is RRP what you should expect to pay?

I know with the new BMW Mini (for example) the waiting lists are extremely long and hence discounts are pretty much unheard of. What's the situation with Skoda regarding lead-times from ordering to delivery?

I'll be paying cash (i.e. no finance needed) and am located in the Swindon area, but am happy to travel to other areas if a good deal can be negotiated.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Iwan

The Octy does not come with a 130 bhp PD engine, only a 105 1.9 PD or a 140 2.0 PD. The old one had 90 or 110 none PD TDis.

Pretty sure the 130PD was available in the "old" L&K and Elegance?

More commonly known as an SDI on this site... ;)

Rob.

I've got an 'old' octy 130 1.9 pd ambiente SE, so they were available. I got mine via the drivethedeal.com website and saved a few hundred quid. This was about 6 months ago when they were getting rid of the old ones (I got 3 years interest free credit too). It is still listed on the drive the deal website so it might be worth calling them and asking about availability.

Skoda UK's site still lists the PD130 engine as being available in the 'old' Octavia. There are 2 Hatch versions (Ambiente SE and Elegance) and 2 Estate versions (Elegance and L&K) using it. I definitely had a ride in a 130PD-engined SDI at Bruntingthorpe a while ago.

Cheers guys, yes it's the 'old' Octavia that i was referring to, according to the Skoda website it is/was available with the PD130 mill.

Will check out the link above also, cheers. :)

I couldn't negotiate any discount in Gloucester on a Fabia vRS - and was quoted about 3 months for an ordered car. I took the one in the showroom - with no discount.

Picked mine up 10 days after ordering in June - it was brand new off a transporter in the colour / spec I wanted. Also negotiated a deal from the main dealer - sometimes websites are not necessarily the best deal.

I would think the decision between the Octavia or Fabia is easier to make as the cars are so different in size.

Seeing as used Fabia vRS are going at new prices at some places discounts are somewhat hard to come by.

However our sales guy did say he would match anything quoted by a internet car supplier to secure a deal.

Wrong again i'm afraid.

I was talking to a dealer today who said he could knock

The discounts are there and it is the quietest time of the year. But then again, the Furby vRSes are in demand so I guess it'll depend on the dealer and how much they want a sale.

The one I've sorted was going to be a dealer demo, so they made up their sales target. So I've ended up with a silver vRS for the same price as Tins and no waiting time. Options will always complicate things (mine's standard).

Good luck!

Steve
