REMAP VS SERVICING

Featured Replies

I am aware that many companies (AMD, REVO) offer a remap service where you can also buy a remote to 'turn' the remap on and off, they say that you can obviously do this before your car is serviced for instance so the mechanics never know...why?

Am i right in thinking that it is just for those of us (not many now i guess) who still have a car within a warranty period or am i likely to expect grief if i were to remap the fab and take it to a proper VAG/Skoda servicing outlet? For instance will they refuse to service it?

I doubt it makes much difference but id prefer to get my fab serviced in proper VAG workshops (regardless of cost) as im under the nieve impression that when iv finished with the car in three years which i predict will nearly have 200k on it that the little bugger will still be worth something :giggle:

Of the two, it's only AMDs offering that actually allows you to remove the map (they use the same device as our STS).

The advice is basically there to save you the hassle of a tech driving it and noticing the map, however with certain software the map is still there for all to see anyway, if they wanted to look.

That said, it won't hinder you having your car serviced, and a VAG dealer won't refuse to service it. Nor does a remap stop them from doing their job.

Just a note of caution.

Not all VAG dealers are equal. Last year I had mine serviced and mentioned there was a noise from the front left wheel hub and I suspected a cv joint on the way out. They returned it 'serviced' but claimed they could not hear the noise at all though it was there when I drove away! Subsequently I took it to my local garage (who use VAG parts) and they correctly diagnosed the problem and fitted the new cv joint for less than a 'proper' VAG dealer would have charged.

ok that said why would you want to have the ability to turn a map on and off, i mean the option to make your car slower again :dull:

to stop skoda finding out its been mapped allowing them to invalidate the warranty..
