Newspaper dealer adverts circa 1980

Featured Replies

A while back I got passed a box of my childhood toy cars still in their old milk crate. I tipped them out on to the floor like I would of done 30 years ago and they were just as battered as I remember but I became more interested in the newspaper lining the bottom! Some interested cars for sale back then.

Are you sure it was from 1980? there is a '77 Alfasud for sale, surely reaching 3 years old is some kind of record

Sadly true. But my '74 model lasted, with a little help, 7 years, before it front-ended a substantial bit of street furniture.

But such good steering, balance and that flat four engine. Ruined by poor chassis steel, a gearbox that wasn't up to the job and **** Teves brakes.

Only seem to do in-line engines today. Supoose the nearest to the AS would be the Mito, offered with 1.4 105Hp, and either turbo'd 130 or 170Hp. Hmmm.

Is the body work any better today ?

"ex works" <-- I don't think I ever did work out what that actually meant!

It was the price as it left the factory. You then had to pay extra for delivery, number plates, tax, fuel etc. Sometimes even the pre-delivery inspection. It was a ploy to try and make the cars look cheaper than they actually were.

Thanks :)
