If I can find a vrs in good condition with 90k for around £4300 that gives me enough for the remap and pd160 intake.

I love my 182, it sound really good and handles better than anything I have ever driven but it's just not practical.

Thanks for all the advice

Type in skoda fabia vrs and then newly listed, there is a fresh one up with 90k sounds good buy it now 4200,bargain

I dont know how much a map costs as mine was already done

My brother has a 172 cliosport and i quite liked it but to be honest it drank fuel and didnt really appeal to me unless i were to use it as a track car imo ;)

Where is this for sale? It sounds like if I wait I could get a better deal but can't not have a car so can't hang about too long.

Need to sell my car first lol, yes the 182 Is terrible fir drinking petrol that's the main reason I want rid - although I just put a new lambda sensor on it and the mpg is rising a good bit

Keep an eye on the Scottish meets should be one soon in Killie, Your welcome to have a look 'round mine and I'll take you for a wee spin, You can make a more informed decision once you been out in one.

Sounds like a plan, any idea roughly when it might be? And is it mainly vrs owners that go?

I dont have a VRS i went to the last meet :giggle:

I will come along to the next one if I can afford to fill my car up to get there lol.

AS a previous 182 owner I will give a non biased opinion. And in my opinion the 182 for driving fun, thrills etc beats the VRS hands down. I'm a person who doesn't give two ****s about straight line speed its all about what goes on under braking and cornering. The 182 handles superb and handling is by far the VRS' biggest downfall. However I was expecting the worst from the handling but I was a little shocked, considering the upfront weight, the VRS has so much grip. With a set of decent tyres they are more than respectable. Haven't yet played with the suspension or got the RARB that will all come later this year but they are supposed to make a vast improvement on handling.

In terms of MPG it really does depend on how you drive, my last tank (brim to brim measuring method) saw me 53.6MPG, that includes a few longish trips at about 30 miles, a few close trips so say 7 miles and a bit of all round driving, it does however exclude motorway driving. I do drive very steady majority of the time but that figure does include a little bit of enthusiastic driving too.

The VRS in general has an all round good feel with regard its torque and so on, always feels like your accelerating faster than you are which means after a year of ownership I haven't got bored! Overtaking power is always there and even without a remap I'd say the car has enough poke so to speak.

Brakes are similar to that of the clios although probably a shade worse, I found with the clio I could stop fine from x speed maybe 2-3 times but after that I was on my own, similar case with the VRS brakes however you do have a lot of cheap options such as the 312mm upgrade which I intend to do in the next couple of months.

An finally with the VRS, if you look after it, in general they seem to look after you. The engines are known to go on in excess of 200,000 miles when properly maintained and looked after. I have just hit 50,000 myself and dont have a worry in the world, where as the clio at 40,0000 (although I didn't have any problems) I was starting to expect them!

What would I have between the two cars? If I could afford to run the 182 I'm not going to lie, I'd have one hands down. Probably still my favourite hot hatch out there but with my current situation and the future I have panned out the VRS is just that much more affordable and practical that makes the 182 really not worth the extra monies.

Hope this helps

Well I'm getting married this year and hopefully kids not logng after so it's the sensible option, as you know taxing the Clio for 6 month is £130 and tge insurance for the vrs is £200 less than the 182 then of course the fuel savings so all in all I could be saving £2000 a year.

I'll miss my 182, do you think it would be worth joining this site and adcvertising it on here?

Hi, I check auto trader most days but need rid of my car first.

The Ibiza pd160 looks not bad and more tuning potential than the vrs so it seems.

I'm getting 20-25mpg all I do is city driving but on long trips max I get is 36mpg so I'm unsure what the furs savings a year would be - prob not that much due to diesel prices

I've had my vRS for just over a year now.....and I must say I have been impressed by the quality (especially compared to a Clio) and reliability of it, along with the MPG (on motorways). However, I must say that theres no point getting it if you only drive short distances!!

I previously had an Escort GTi and I would fill up the tank with petrol ONCE a month on average except for when I did the odd long distance journey. My vRS however, I still fill up once per month. The fuel tank sizes are 55L and 45L respectively, but what I'm trying to say is, you won't see a big difference unless you do a lot of driving!

My car journeys are like yours, a lot of city driving and I mainly only really take it to work and back, and take/pick up my wife from work. Each of these journeys are less than 5 miles and as such the diesel engine has not got up to temperature to get the "diesel economy" and as such, I get home or to work and my average MPG will be less than 30MPG!! (even worse in winter!)

Because of this heat efficiency, you will find it ANNOYING in winter when you use the blowers to demist/finish de-icing your windscreen it takes AGES!! (only Ford have heated front windscreens :'( )

The engines feel not as refined as petrol, you can't whack an exhaust on it and get the same result as with petrol, they're no fun when you do "rag them" as theres no power at the top end (completely different driving style to petrol), and the handling is in a different league!

Just a few things to consider.

That said, I still own the vRS and find it hard to get rid of it for a Fiesta ST or something!! :p

It's the sensible option.

Only the Ibiza Cupra 160 has the FMIC, Vrs's don't. When your going over, say 190bhp , the FMIC is reqd. Seat FMIC and Forge ones are the most popular. A relatively easy mod.

Muppje, that's some good information for me to think about.

I pick my gf up from work every day take 5 mins to get there and by the time I get home my 182 still ain't fully heated up.

Maybe I wouldn't be saving as much as I thought.

With my new lambda sensor fitted to my 182 my average mpg has gone to 24mpg and I only reset the trip computer 3 days ago, if I can get it to around 30mpg city driving and 40-45mpg motorway driving I might be better off sticking with the Clio just now well I'm less fussy about selling it I will still advertise it but won't budge on the price I want.

I can get 45-50MPG on a small run of no more than 3 miles each way in town driving. during winter i was seeing a minium of 40mpg.

Think best thing is just to give one a test drive, see what you think. Obviously comparing like for like will leave you disappointed, however if you start looking at other figures like tax, insurance, perhaps fuel, practicality, reliability..... For many its a step down into more sensible option yet still have just enough of a fun drive, IF that's what your aiming for..

Alternatives is faster diesels but still have similar scenario's, petrol options? Well.. ST, swift sport, 320? (prob d would be better lol), Type R or S, civic or accords, Colt CZT, VXR (just no imo but it is an option), on impractical side slightly but cheap as chips is Yaris T-sports..

They were my main options before I opt'd for the Fabia. :D (p.s. I also had a look at the IS200's, sooooooooo nice.. but worse off in servicing/cost/petrol/tax/everything.........)

Edit 2: BUT if simply you want to save fuel, possibly read up on eco driving!

A tenner of fuel and I just got around 25 miles from it.

I was looking at 330d high miliage ones, pretty fast but too much to run.

Will look around some at next Scotland meet and decide then

I do agree that the Fabia takes a while to warm up, but I don't ever see less than 40mpg, even if its a mile or two. The only time I've seen it drop considerably is on a track, however I was still managing 22mpg going round the Nurburgring all day! It did mean I missed all the queues at the petrol stations too hehe!

I actually got 55 miles from my tenner so I got around 27mpg today - I forgot I went to ikea this morning doh.

Just drive one and see what you think. No matter what MPG it does, if you don't enjoy it you'll always regret chopping in the 182!

oldman drove to liverpool and back over the weekend, and my VRS averaged over 70mpg doin 75 on the speedo, and some drivin around liverpool, it's done 370miles its still over half left in the tank with the range saying there is still another 330miles, obviously this will drop with drivin round town, but for motorway munchin its superb.

round town i always get near the 45 - 52mpg mark anyway, and don't forget the brim the tank, without this its at least 2 gallons less in the tank.

Wow that's worse than my Integra!

Have you thought about an Accord Type R? 4 doors, big boot, 220bhp, sounds great, better on fuel (Whilst not in VTEC lol) and they're cheap as chips now, can easily have one under £5k and have some spare change for a holiday or something :-)

I drive my car like it's stolen, foot to the floor everywher hence the mpg,

I do like the accord type are but need a hatchback for my dog or a roof rack that I can easily strap a dog to.

Being only 18 when I had mine I was very similar, worst I saw (not sure about MPG) but full tank, had a very quick run, 50 miles later brimmed the tank, cost me just under £22. I almost keeled over on the spot! That was when fuel was a little cheaper too!

I just love the noise my car makes and the attention it gets due to that and the colour of it.

If I'm honest I can live with 30mpg daily driving, it was when my 02 sensor was broke and I was getting 15 and below mpg it was getting me very depressed. My own fault for nit fixing it sooner and the part was only £60 so it would have paid for itself in fuel savings over a month.

I do still want a vrs tdi it's the sensible option., so will keep a look out for a good example
