mummy wants a new car

Featured Replies

my mum has decided on getting a new car and suggested a ford focus 1.6 zetec (real sports car) but i dnt think its right for her

but its slightly better than her current citreon c3 1.4 LX

basicly i just want to see what poeple would suggest as a good replacement (as she refused to buy a fabia vrs like i suggested)

it has to be roughly 1.6L

petrol or diesel doesnt matter which

about the size of a focus

under 7K

and roughly 20,000 on the clock

i know thats a big list of things but its my mother and she will keep adding things to that list

cheers shreads

Is there a mazda based on the Focus platform?

If so, that'll be a better bet, as they are usually more value for money.

This will be no help at all, but I seriously considered a Focus (preferably a TDi though) when I bought the Octy 4 years back. I couldn't find a Focus in decent nick though.

Yes, the Mazda 3.

7k might get you a 56 or 07 with 20-30k. TS or Katano is the lowest spec worth getting but you might want to look for a Tamura "special edition" that looks more "sporty"

While I'm here, has anyone seen Babs :p

Has she looked at a C4 5 Door? With in budget at that millage and ae 1.6i engine.

My Mate had a C2, his wife a C3 Pluriel. Then he got a C4.. I can tell you, the C4 is worlds apart from the C2 & C3. Well worth a look and you'll prob get a decent trade.

Being useful, I just helped a mate get an 05, 100k mile 1.6 HDI C4 for 3k so there are plenty of good C4's out there.

This one has had a clean bill of health from a citroen garage, is in good condition and had a new clutch fitted and new tyres too.

Not bad that IMHO.

Good to see you've a sense of humour

Has she seen and been in a C4?

It's hardly big and is the same size or slightly smaller than the focus. :S

Still if she wants really small something like a ford fusion can be picked up for less than a fiesta and a 107/aygo/C1 is not an expensive option either.

Well the Focus is huge!

How about something like a Susuki Swift as being a bit smaller but not quite noddy sized and good fun

yep that y there was a confused face at the end of the C4 comment they look pretty nice but shes not looked at any in garages yet just internet pictures

oh and number 4 on the list she beats me now after the not ageing well comment

As reliability wasn't mentioned in the original list, how about an Alfa 147 emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Tell her to have a test drive in the C4 as they are exception value second hand.

That way she knows if that is too big so is the focus and most cars that size.

C3 sized again, I'd be looking at a Yaris as they are well screwed together.

If Yaris is a contender, I'd also suggest the Micra Sport SR to the list as it ticks all the original requirements barring being the same size as a Focus.

ok cheers on the c4 dunno if she wants another citreon and as for the micra thats a big no no 1 its a micra 2 we had one as a replacement while her c3 was getting fixed she picked me up from the airport in it and on the motorways crosswinds made it impossible to drive in a straight line 3 just plain no

il get her to go test drive some when shes free see if i can tempt her to get a fabia vrs and get me on her insurance :giggle:

cheers

Oh, you're totally right, they don't tick the "image" box...not something I take offence over. :giggle: Fortunately the engine is a joint Renault-Nissan venture though so if image is a concern then there's always the Clio - it's a nice lively unit, not going to win any races but it's responsive and revvy.

Can't say I have, but then:

1. Am guessing the courtesy car you had was base model - small light engine and skinny tyres.

2. I used to have a smart fortwo and became accustomed to driving in crosswinds in that.

Hyundai i30

Comes in 1.6, petrol and diesel.

Focus sized, long warranty, well equipped, comfy, quiet, good power from the petrol engine. Nice car.
