New VRS Alarm / Imob and other stupid questions

Featured Replies

Hope one of you guys could help me out with this one, I'm due to collect my spanking new Octavia VRS Estate (petrol) in the next week or so and am trying to find out if the Factort fit Alarm / imob is Thatcham CAT1 or not as there is conflicting info out there.

Also have specced it with Sunset Glass amongst other things but have just noticed in the brochure that it comes with tinted glass as standard, any idea of the difference.

From Scotland but have it booked in a Torquetronix in Northern Ireland (inlaws visit combined) for a remap already, they hope to get between 260 - 300bhp out of it as these new engines remap really well so it should go like a rocket.

Finally just a bit of advice to anyone that wants to listen, the VRS is a cracking car I should know as I have just taken a huge financial kicking to get my 2nd one, I originally had an 06 plate hatch in red which was magic but we got 2 boxer dogs so decided to change it for a Vectra SRI CDTI 150bhp Estate, which even when remapped to 188bhp was ****, massive mistake I should have got a VRS estate there and then but have ended up loosing a fortune on the Vectra which was poorly made. For a comparable fast estate you need to look at BMW and Audi and spend a fortune for not much more car.

Sunset glass is darker again than the standard tint

I thought sunset glass just gave a dark tint to the rear windows (back seat passenger ones) and all boot windows. I may be wrong :S

You are 100% correct

You are 100% correct

I always am!!!! :giggle:

260-300 seems a little high for a simple remap. I take it you are planning other mods to get the power up to that.

Nothing but a custom remap planned, will need to see what happens on the day and what the dyno gods are saying but from speaking to the guys at torquetronix (have used them before and was very pleased with there work) they think that getting 260bhp is quite normal after a custom remap and have had some 2.0T FSI Golf GTI's that have remapped to near the 300bhp mark, it just seems to be luck of the draw with your own engine. Apparantly the newer ones remap much better. Thought about a K&N induction kit but have been advised its a waste of time plus it's then obvious to Skoda and the insurance guy that it's been modded.

As for other mods im getting a bit too old and sensible for all that, I just want the car to look totally standard, appart from the silver rails and sunset glass that is, it's all the more satisfying to leave the BMW's and Audi's behind then lol

Anyone know anything about the alarm / imob.

Getting the car on Tues / Wed nex week for info i think it was week 16 build.

A 50% power increase with a remap (to get to 300bhp) seems very optimistic but if it does then that is great and I hope iit does achieve this for you. Normally a simple remap yield around 30bhp extra..

With the alarm, just tell the insurance company it is a factory fit alarm/immob. They will know what it is and adjust the premium accordingly. In fact it will already be included in the premium quote as it will be assumed to be there.

It will be Cat 1. Cat 2 is just an immobiliser with no alarm. You can check on the Thatcham website though.

Thanks to both of you for advice, my last remap got me another 48bhp and that was on a diesel vectra 150bhp sri, most tuning companies are quoting figures of between 250 - 265 bhp for a remapped petrol VRS so think your figure of 30 may be a little on the cautious side but you never know until the day so i'll post the results on the site once it's done. Cheers
