Electrical Problem and Brake Problems?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing these problems.

1) After driving the Yeti and using the brakes it performs fine. However when I park the Yeti, where it s a very shallow slope, I just put it on neutral (its manual) and let it roll. But on almost all occasions, when I do that and touch the brake (I am sure its the brake), a kind of "vacuum bang" should happens. Has anyone experienced this, or is something wrong with my Yeti?

2) When I shut the drivers window with the "one shut" function and shut the passenger side window, the "one shut" function on the driver's side stops and reverse down. This is happening quite often now, has anyone experienced this problem?

I would like to know if this is common before getting back to the dealer.

Thanks,

Angus

(1) No idea; I've never driven a Yeti.

(2) If it's like everything else, the "closed" position may need reprogramming; details in the manual.

Hi there, my car is not equipped with Maxidot and therefore I don't think there is anything I re-program - would the dealer be able to do this?

Has anyone else experience those similar problems listed above?

The window problem has happened to me. I hope I get this right!!

Open the window then close it BUT hold on to the window switch for a few seconds. You should hear a click and the window should operate correctly afterwards.

It has something to do with you (and me) operating the switch too fast and "confusing" the mechanism.

Thanks, how strange? I will definitely try that. I don't understand how operating the passenger side windows while the driver's side is closing should confuse one another. Tyranny of technology,

Just out of interest, did you experience the "vacuum bang" problem I am experiencing?

Regarding the brakes do you have hill hold?

And could you clarify...."put it in neutral and let it roll", you have applied the handbrake here I assume?

Hi there,

Its a TSI S, I am not sure if it has hill hold - if it has, it doesn't work, becuase it rolls back when its on first gear with clutch applied on a slope. I don't think it has, but I am not sure to be honest.

Well basically, where I park is the end of a road so I tend to reverse back to the end of that road, and since it is a slight slope I let it roll down that very shallow slope by putting it in neutral and not using the hand brake, the distance is about 15 meters and I dab the brakes to control it, but the first dab is always comes with a "bang" feels a little like when springs are rusty, its not coming from inside the car, but from outside.

Basically imagine you are going down a shallow decline with no gear and dab on the brake which follows by immediate "bang" with the dab on the brake, it doesn't matter how hard you press it, and its normally quite soft to just control the speed and not to stop it.

Follwing the first dab and "bang", its fine. I must also stress that the brake works as normal even with the bang.

Could it be the hydraulic or springs or somthing?? I bought it new and its only done 450 miles as of today, but this has happen intermitently after around 200 miles and now its almost happening every time I go home and park up.

Thanks

Take it to the dealer is my advice.

This might be a stupid question! But are you 'dabbing' the brake and the noise is the pedal rebounding? I've experienced this before. I find the Yeti so quiet in general that mechanical noises like that can be heard quite clearly at times.

Thanks for the replies, I will speak to the dealer amongst other things.

I am very certain that it is from the outside, besides, it only happens whilst doing "neutral and roll down backwards". I have never experienced this when going forward, it only happens when going back wards, and its definitely not stones or things like that, as its a relatively clean road.

Thanks

The "hill hold" is designed to stop the car running backwards on a hill start and needs quite a hard press on the brake pedal to set it. I think the problem may be that the Yeti thinks you are setting hill hold when you are controlling the roll back.

The window problem should be cured with the operation I suggested.

In any case, a visit to the Dealer should solve both problems.

Hi there, I will definitely try to press the brake pedal harder tonight when I get home and see if it holds, I would be very happy if it does as I always drive up and down hills and that would be very useful!

I will also try to electric windows solution and see if that works . Will report back. Cheerio

Hi there, just to report back, the windows seems fine now, but I haven't tested it again - it is rather intermittent anyway.

With reagrds to the brake, I am certain the car doesnt have hill hold and that clear still occurs, its very strange, its like a click and a bang - feels like the spring isn't restracting, hard to describe, but it is definitely going in to the dealers.

Thanks there

Sounds to me as if the brake mechanism is slightly loose and shifting when you apply the brakes going backwards; I had a similar sound on my last car (not Skoda), and that is what was causing it.

s doesnt have hill hold anyways?...

Thanks for the help, I will contact the dealer, it just doesn't sound too safe, but it brakes fine for now.

Furthermore, I have previously posted some kind of jerkiness in second gear, I have now notice that it is fine at 900 rpm or near idle, but jerky when the accelerator is not pressed between 1000 to 1200 rpm, and it only happens in second gear.

I think all the manual 1.2 don't have hill hold, but all the DSGs do?? Oh well, there's nothing wrong with using the handbrake.

Hi

Yes I Have had this same thing with the brakes on my 2L YETI I think its the brake pads that move when you reverse as I do the same as you ie drift back slite slope and there is a loud click like sound I have had it on other cars I have had.

Hi there, thanks. I have now emailed my dealer.

Another strange thing happened last night, since my car has done 500 miles, I decided to follow what "Honest John" has said about running in a petrol engine and letting the piston ring to set in? So I decided to take it up to 4000 rpm, I did it on an open road in 2nd and 3rd for about 3-4 times and on all times the lower dash emit a high frequency buzzing sound at 4000 rpm. Similarly the silver trim on the tachometer and speedo is now emitting a creaking "plastic to plastic" noise, which didn't exist before.

I have to say, it reached 4000 rpm with no problem with less than half the throttle. Quite quick as well!

Loose trim, I believe others have had the problem. Get the dealer to check it out.

If all else fails, a bit of blu-tak across the offending edge section can stop it (usually)

Thanks, I will defintely point that out when I see the dealer - with regards to the loud "bang" with reverse and brake, its not only reversing down hill, but also reversing flat in reverse, when the bang happens immediately when the I touches the brakes. I will go and see the dealer about that as well.

Sounds like the pads moving in the calipers.

ITS A POSSIBLE BRAKE ISSUE, TALK TO (PREFERABLY TAKE IT TO) YOUR DEALER URGENTLY.

Thanks, I have booked int the dealer for next weeks, so will report back. Cheers

  • 4 weeks later...

I had the same problem with my driver side window in my 2010 Laura with only 1200 kms on it, I tried everything but it didn't work. I took it to the dealer they opened the door panel, and sprayed some lubricant inside a small hole where there's a connector or something like that, since than it has been working like charm for now.
