Glow Plug & Engine light

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im the owner of a fabia RS with a recent cambelt change. A week on and the glow plug light and engine light have come on, and staying one while engine is running, this happened while accelerating however car is still driving and starts.

I have checked the brake lights, seems to be a common problem searching the forums, and they are coming on. The brakes, discs and pads, are due for a change and was actually on the way home from getting the car booked in when the lights came on.

Any ideas at all what the problem could be ? Getting it checked tomorrow with any luck but would like to have some knowledge of what to expect before going down there.

No smoke from exhaust and the engine "sounds" fine, not racing or stuttering.

Many thanks,

Joel

Small Update:-

Both lights have gone out now, started car since lights came on around 5 times. Still taking it to get the ecu read just incase but what could have caused this problem ? Would rather get it fixed than wait for something major to go.

You reaklly need to get your fault codes read for this one. My car had two glow plugs fail in quick succession after my cam belt was done. No idea if it was even related though. If you do manage to get the codes read and it does turn out to be a glow plug they're not diffficult to change.

My car did this around christmas time when I was messing about with the fuse for the rear wiper.

I stupidly pulled the wrong fuse when I had the ignition on and it put the EML on and the glowplug light flashing but after a few starts of the car they both went off and didnt come on again but when they were on the car ran fine with no problems

Cam timing could be slightly out making the ECU think that you have a fault with the cam position sensor.

I had this on SWMBOs Fabia 1.4TDI after a cam belt change and spent months and a significant amount of money replacing crank and cam shaft position sensors and a the battery, just to find that the garage hadn't adjusted the cam timing. Re-set this myself and we haven't had the warning lights or fault code since.
