I'm seriously considering replacing my Passat estate with a Fabia diesel estate as I no longer need a large car but I do need an estate. My wife has a Fabia 100bhp pdi Elegance hatch so I would be quite happy with the size drop. I think that it's a pity that Skoda don't do a vrs Fabia Estate. One point; is there any sense (apart from cosmetic) in upgrading to the optional 15" alloys?

I'd be grateful for any comments, especially from anyone who has an estate, before I get too serious.

Just cosmetics And don't bother whit this question - just take it! model 2005 looks great.

I have estate ten days old and 15"...

The wheels take 195/50 tyres rather than the 185/60's found on the 14" wheels so you'll have a bit more grip and also the ride may be slightly firmer as they're lower profile. I have the 14" wheels on mine (hatch) and they seem to be fine, although after having it lowered, do look a little bit small. On the plus side, tyres are dirt cheap, and no-ones going to nick them

I have the 15" wheels on my car and I think they improve the looks over having 14's. I'd say definately pay the extra

I bought a Fabia Estate TD PD recently which was 8 months old. I managed to get the dealer to upgrade the alloys to 15" with new lower profile rubber all round for no extra cost. He tried to palm me off with non-Skoda rims but if you keep on chiselling you'll get the real deal (no1 on the alloy wheels in the accessories catalogue in my case). I did let him keep the 14's to put on a trade-in. They were pretty roughed up anyway and would have required a refurb for 2 rims which had been kerbed.
