Bluetooth Hands Free Kit

Featured Replies

I just picked up my brand new Skoda Octavia Estate Elegance yesterday and was shocked when I've been told that the Bluetooth kit is not compatible with iPhone or Blackberry.

The dealer told me that lots of people complained about this and showed me the list of compatible phone in their brochure. I mean, Skoda can't be serious with this, can't they or

is it just me seeing Blackberry's and iPhone's everywhere!?

However, the dealer recommended this forum as someone here might have a solution how i can get my Blackberry and iPhone running over the Bluetooth kit? -Maybe a third

party solution?

Looking forward to your comments, any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Jens

My advice would be to wait a couple of weeks before spending any money on anything. As of MY11 (build week 22, 2 weeks time) there will be a revision to the GSM III PREMIUM Bluetooth system that will make it again compatible with iPhone and Crackberry. I've spoken to a few different people right now at Skoda Uk and am awaiting a reply from Skoda CZ with regards whether or not this update will be a software or hardware update and the consensus is to wait as there may be a solution within the next few weeks

Simbo, thanks for the warm welcome! I picked up my car yesterday (after 3 months waiting for it) and didn't take any pictures yet.

Also, thank both of you for the info. I think I will wait a few weeks and hope that it is just a software update to make the Bluetooth hands free kit work for my phones.

Please keep me posted!

Thanks and have a great weekend,

Jens

Erm mine works with Blackberry - 8900 curve and 8320.

Those are supported by rSap

You need a new blackberry then!!

I do have a Blackberry Bold 9000 and tried to make it work. The Bluetooth set can discover the BB but can't connect and says it is not compatible.

9000 works for sure, just follow the proper procedures.

I tried it over and over again. The car can discover the Blackberry, I enter the code 1234 but it always ends up with the message phone not compatible.

I looked up all the compatible phones which are listed in the brochure. Skoda can't be serious, the most of these phones are not even built anymore and you are lucky

if you can get them on ebay. I was wondering if there is any 3rd party solution, software or hardware, to make the internal bluetooth kit working with iphone, blackberry

or any other up to date phone which doesn't support the rSap "standard".

Thanks for all your help!

Worst case a new model of GSM III will come out in a few weeks as others have said and shell out a 300+ upgrade for the kit, if the GSM III Preimium is not SW upgradable to the new model which does support rSap and bluetooth at same time. Stupid decision by vw/skoda.

Try this

Hmm, OK, maybe some of us should (at least me) send apologies to VW.

I just connected my BlackBerry Bold to my VW Premium Phone Kit...

No joke 16x16_smiley-wink.gif

(Translated from German UI)

* On the VW Premium Phone Kit: Start Searching for devices

* On Bold: Start Setup Bluetooth

* On Bold: Answer question whether to search for devices or listen for searching devices LISTEN

* On VW PP: After a while you will see a 16 number PIN

* On Bold: Enter that 16 number pin from the VW PP

* On VW: It shows a screen labelled "PIN Code" now. That really made me wonder what that means. The manual did not help. I guess you can choose a ne (shorter) Bluetooth PIN now. The UI is, however, very strange.

It looks like this

PIN Code

[0]

Now you can cycle through the numbers from 0-9 using the up and down buttons on the steering wheel. OK selects a number.

But how do I leave this screen? Well, just cycle down to 0 and the hit the down button once more. Ahhh! Then we get other options down there like Cancel, OK and Reset.

After you have chosen a new PIN your done and you can start to call your collegues who complain about their not functioning Premium Phone Kit to laugh at them 16x16_smiley-wink.gif

OK, HTH, and sorry once again for all that noise 16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Shamelessly taken from here

You have to set your bluetooth on the bb to listen too - then enter the 16digit code that the car displays. Then do not cancel the message - blackberry connected to Skoda Rsap.

Unlike other phones you cannot use your blackberry whatsoever whilst connected.

Thanks Raglits, jrw and everyone here in the forum.

I managed to get my Blackberry connected :)

I really hope Skoda is coming up with a solution for the iPhone soon!

My iPhone 3GS connected no problem to Superb i test drove.

Can't see why it wouldn't work on an Octavia. Pretty sure its the same bluetooth module. But could be wrong.

New Superb's, as Octavia's, have rSAP, and the iPhone dont... so wont connect :(

Maybe you drove an Irish superb - they have GSM II rather that GSM III which iPhone can connect too...

Nope it was definately a UK Spec car from a UK Dealer.

Thing is - even that list is wrong. I have followed up with Skoda UK about it and today they offered me money towards a new compatible handset because mine was listed incorrectly on the list (SE W810i)

I got in touch with Skoda myself and here's their reply:

"Thank you for your email dated 16 May 2010, regarding your concerns.

As you know, the mobile phone market is very fast moving: both software and a number of different Bluetooth technologies are

updated by the phone manufacturers continually.

It is therefore not always possible to provide compatibility for all mobile phone handsets. We liaise with our supplier, on a

regular basis to ensure they are aware of the requirements for mobile phone users in the UK.

To obtain the most up to date list of mobile telephones I would suggest contacting you local Skoda Retailer (details provided

below).

I have made a note of your comments which will be helpful in providing up to date customer feedback regarding the use of mobile

phones with the latest Skoda models."

Seems like the iPhone hasn't arrived in Skoda land yet. They should get Jawbone to work with them, this Bluetooth set works with iPhone and Blackberry connected, even at the same time! ;)

correct - i have a list which has come directly from skoda on the models compatible with GSMIII - all rSAP based. no iPhone, no Sony Ericssons at all.. and guess what - at the local dealer all the sony ericsson phones in the brochure now have a sticker over them...

I guess it's more a case of the IPhone being crap in that respect (as in many others) - I also have one and can't get my third-Party-Bluetooth handsfree kit to import the IPhones contacts....and this is a problem known to nearly any system of kit..... Apple just ignores the needs and go their own way. Who wants to blame them, we all are stupid enough to throw our money at them.

(Not really satisfied with my IPhone, as you may guess)

I have the Fiscon Basic Plus kit and it integrates with the MFD3. All my Contacts are stored on the MFD3 so as soon as i get in the car the phone Sync's to the Fiscon and then i can do all my dialling through the MFD3 or Maxidot.

As i said my iPhone Connected to the Bluetooth in a Superb i drove

I use an iphone and GSM II kit. Works...........after a fashion. The phonebook downloads fine but every now and then it just drops the BT link and it >seems< to match the periods when the GSM signal drops out. Weird.

BT kits are in general, a complete and utter apin in the a*se. emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

My iPhone address book works with Fiscon, Parrot and Bury kits... Which kit have you got? as to be fair to Apple address book sync is one of the few things I haven't had trouble with...

I want to see one of these Fiscon units in action - i see there are three variants.. does it actually integrate with the car display? (maxidot & touchscreen?) It's really not clear from their website how well it works with the maxidot on the various year models...

I think I've decided that skoda's offer to contribute to a new handset is not sufficient - i want a better solution..

Three variants? Basic and BasicPlus I know about (I have BasicPlus), but what's the third one?

Whereabouts are you? Happy to show you mine if I'm anywhere close, if not, maybe I can take a few pictures...

I tend to use mine through the Bolero as I can start typing a name in if I have to make an outgoing call and with over 500 entries in the address book it's easier than scrolling through on Maxidot... but when on a call I do get the info on Maxidot too
