Fabia Greenline spare wheel

Featured Replies

Not satisfied with a tin of shaving foam and an electric hairdryer for inflation I decided to source a good old fashioned spare for my Greenline. These wheels are a little different from the standard Fabia and my local dealer didnt appear open to supplying me with one (Some nonsense about pushing the car over 109 whatsits of carbon thingamys)

Here you go:

5Jx14H2

ET35

Centre hole 57

PCD 100

A new steel rim cost me £25 (VAG part) others are available.

Bung on the 165/70 R14 tyre of your choice and you have a spare wheel.

I took a trip to my local scrapyard and found a nice shiny bootwell box for the jack etc out of an old Fabia for a few sheckles. The box is good as it supports the boot carpet, the wheel sits lower down in the well as its narrower than the wheel that would normally be there .

With the above spec you might find a cheap wheel and tyre at the scrapyard.

For those who just cant help themselves and need to know what that all means....

5J: This is 5 bolt holes with a 'J' type rim contour profile

14H2 : 14 inch diameter wheel with a H2 bead hump profile

ET 35: This is the wheel offset from the mounting point

57: The size of the hole in the middle

PCD 100: Pitch circle diamter of the 5 bolt holes

Is there a puncture repair trick I am missing here? Last week, I saw Clarkson in the Arctic with a tyre off its rim. The trick was a tin of lighter fuel and a match to explode it back onto the rim.

Think you are taking the shaving foam and hairdrier too literally... with the Greenline, and most new Skud's, you now get a bottle of puncture repair fluid, (like gloop, etc) and a compact tyre inflator that plugs in the lighter socket to re-inflate the flat... Gloop, or tyre slime put in at home, would however, prevent the puncture from letting the tyre down to begin with as they are preventative "medicine" for tyres, up to a certain size of hole... B)B)

I thought the 5 in 5J was the rim section i.e 5 inches in this case

Why fit a 14 inch rim and skinny tyre?

The Greenline well will take a full size rim and tyre.

Even the standard spare wheel package gives you a full size rim with a 195 tyre...

because then the spare matches the main wheels......it wasnt rocket science. The GL1 uses 165/70 14 tyres as standard. The GL2 is efficient enough anyway to use standard tyres.

Oh sorry, though we were talking about the GL2. :(

How much extra space does it take up in the boot?

My Greenline (1) Has 15 inch wheels so put that in your well!

Come one folks, give me a clue, eh! A couple of photos would be great!
