Kwik Fit????

Kwik Fit????

:giggle: id do it myself before i let them touch my car. I had them sort out the wheel alignment in plymouth. highly amused when they tried to charge me extra for adjusting the front and rear camber. And when i then informed him that front camber was fixed, there was a heated debate,of which i won and got 50% off because they had tried to rip me off

bunch of wasters

Slightly off topic but related question...

I've heard a lot of people saying the standard cat-back exhaust is fine, and the best gains are to be had from fitting downpipe and sports cat or de-cat.

So with that in mind, is it possible to fit just a downpipe and sports cat leaving the original cat back?

Milltek say their downpipe and sports cat must be used with their cat back...

Hi mate , i have a Pipewerx DP and standard cat back and it fits perfect as the Pipewerx DP already has the reducer fitted.

That may be because of diameter differences between standard and Miltek, the Blueflame De-cat needs a seperate adapter to fit the standard system.

This is definately another option. A friend of mine is currently in stadtlers up north having a flanged decat section fitted to his miltek performance downpipe. I got him to ask them if they coul do the to the standard downpipe and the answer is yes, for only £95. now that is the bargain of the century. heres some ics of what it looks like(on a miltek)

Si, where did you get these pictures from? I wouldn't mind speaking to the guy who done this regarding the flanges and where to get them and the gaskets.

After speaking to my mechanic today, he has said he could do the above change for 60 quid....bargain! or if I went for the Blueflame, he would be 'friendly' during the MOT's, out of interest, were you serious about having the pipe off me? if the missus complains about the noise.

EDIT: Just found the OP on the mk5 forum by HUrdy, reading through I notice the murder was of a Miltek DP/sport cat, not a standard system. TBH, I have my reservations now, as the standard down pipe has the pre-cat filter, unless I knock that out!

knock out the precat. that would be the worse bit anyway. the main reason a performance downpipe is required for stage 2 is that engine gas temps get really high. look at the pic below and you can see that the red hot gases from the turbo hit that big wall of the cat converter as soon as it leaves the turbo. get rid of that and your EGT's will drop alot

I removed my precat at the weekend on my (BWA engine) Octavia vRS TFSI running the original map. The EPC light came on today, oh joy!!

Anybody else had this problem? I am getting the fault code read tomorrow.

If the fault code is caused by the precat removal can a remap remove this problem?

Please help

a remap will sort that out straight away.

my car put up a fault light when i fitted the pipewerx downpipe. its just a warning lamp due to the lambda sensors noticing an extreme change in temps, flow etc.

you should be able to run a stage 2 map now on your car with the precat removed..

Hi, dont want to put a spanner in the works or sound like a plank as i am up for mods but be carefull when you decat a car because i got tugged by the law a couple of years ago when i ran a vectra gsi with a courtney performance decat and system and i got nicked and nearly fined. i pleaded ignorant and got away with a m.o.t producer, didnt realise at the time but its illegal to do this and just remember i am talking 2 years ago and emmision laws have now got even tighter, especialy now with vosa doing spot checks. i personaly went for a full miltek system and think they are very good. my personal thoughts are its not worth running the risk of getting a hefty fine for lets be right a few extra ponies. like i said i am up for getting the most from my car but sometimes you have to way the pros and cons.

I have just removed the small pre-cat (as the pictures in post 33 show), the main cat is still there. The car should still pass its MOT no problems as the main cat still keeps it within the emissions limit, according to what I've read from mk5 Golf GTi owners.

I smashed out my high flow 3" cat the other night in preparation for fitting (the cat was already knackered). I should have the cat looks with decat performance.

I have now been running without a pre-cat for 2 weeks (on the standard map) and the car runs fine without any engine lights. The EPC light I mentioned above was for something else and was totally unrelated to the pre-cat removal.

It's difficult for me to say if I have noticed any difference in performance due to the pre-cat as I fitted a Neuspeed intake, SFS Intercooler hoses and a rev d diverter valve at the same time as removing the pre-cat.

The car definitely feels perkier and sounds better after carrying out those mods though

Thats good news, due to a very heavy month for spending my journey towards stage 2 has been put on hold, however the car is due for an MOT next month so my mechanic will be removing the pre-cat at the same time.

Speaking to Dan_the_ V8Man who has a decat on his, he said it is quieter than shark_90's full Miltek non resonated exhaust system. I found the milteks that i have been in thus far to be very quiet in comparison to the other options.

hurdy off te GTI forum reckons the decat is only noisy when you bury the throttle and doesnt give any drone at all.

also reference the quicker spool, check out the low down improvments on his ed 30 in the dyno graph below.

it goes to show peak figures dont mean anything. with the decat at 2850rpm he is making 90Hp more, which will equate to a bloody massive difference on the road

I want my engine to do that - what do I need?

Yep the 3" dp/decat on mine is spot on, i've noticed loads more low down power which i can feel cause it wheel spins a lot more. There is no drone only a lovely deep growl and spool noise. Ok the cel light apears every other day but gonna get that mapped out when i get stage 3.

Can you be more specific on what you want, I'm sure we can help!

Going to stage 2 software should take care of the CEL, love to hear a sound bite of your motor! Been going back and forth between a decat and the pipewerx, still not sure, but I've got 'til next year to figure it out. :D

I'm not sure what difference the high flow cat makes but the decat on mine made 20g/s more @ 2160rpm. The Cat pipe does gain but very slowly through the power range and the decat still beats it at the very top end of the rpm range.

I did a sound clip from in the car but it just sounded like "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" so I think I need an outside the car clip.

20g/s equates to a 24.7Hp increase. you can do a rough HP graph in excel.

From ross tech if you divide you MAF reading by 0.81 it gives a rough (under estimation) Hp reading for you car. It doesnt take into account timing advances so normally a pretty good for stage 1 cars, but not so much for stage 2/2+ as they will advance timing alot more. On my car, it was pretty accurate actually across the entire rev range.

Plot you before MAF/0.81 against RPM and then do it with you after MAF/0.81 and you should see a rough Hp difference that the decat has made

Here's a plot for ya. Notice my boost spike before the decat :smirk:

I went up to 6100rpm and the vertical axis is BHP via the MAF calculations on O.E air filter .

Is that stage 1 or 2 Sy?

that was shark stage 1. everything esle is factory stock

I want my engine to do what the output shows in the Noble Motorsport dyno print-out on janner-Sy's post !

I want my engine to do what the output shows in the Noble Motorsport dyno print-out on janner-Sy's post !

not possible on the std vRS engine.

the graph shown is fom a golf edition 30 which has the k04 TFSI engine. these tune to 350-360Hp. the most you'll be getting out of the k03 TFSI/TSI engine will be about 280Hp.

however you can fit the k04 turbo.

if you have the TFSI vRS you will need to fit all of this http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/tfsik04conversionkit.htm

if you have the TSI vRS you need the APR stage 3 turbo kit for the TSI. his gives alot more than the TFSI k04 conversion

So you don't need an aftermarket 3" downpipe to go to stage 2 as you can just remove the pre cat on the standard downpipe? Have many people done this?
