Downpipe/de-cat

Featured Replies

There are a few guys who have done this. It will be fine and shows decent gains, although you wont make the same peerformance as someone runnign the same map with a proper downpipe.

Thanks and that makes sense as the increased diameter of the downpipe and less restrictive cat will improve gas flow. I guess my question is, is this the safe minimum for stage 2? Is knocking out the pre cat likely to trigger a fault code and then subsequently moving to stage 2 where presumeably an unexpected increase in gas flow would be experienced?

On a related point is an induction kit required for stage 2? Thinking about getting an ITG one but just wondering about what order to do things in.

a decent air intake and precat removal or decat/sports cat is required for stage 2,it helps to have the hpfp uprated internals aswell, these are the mods i am aquiring before getting the map done,oh an dont forget a rev D or newer diverter valve

Mine's the tsi so already has the hpfp and newer diverter valve. Didn't think an intake was absolutely necessary for stage 2 i am sure i read somewhere

you could replace the panel filter with an uprated one,but to get the most out of the map you will want a decent intake,

i didnt know the tsi had uprated hpfp internals is it 130bar?

With turbo engines the more cool air the better. A better flowing filter than standard will always make a difference. Once it's well designed of course.

I'm convinced the standard tsi air box can flow sufficient for up to 300bhp.

Downpipe appears to be the main restriction if you look at the golf / scirocco forums

You will find that standard air boxes are usually designed to reduce noise and to help with emissions. Performance is normally third or forth on the list of priorities. That's why a high flow panel filter is a good first step. Yeah those forums also do mods on the standard air box to increase airflow.

Must admit most modern cars usually have very well designed airboxes.....! The TSI should be a lot better than the one on the TFSI engines at least.
