How can I tell if my car is set on Fixed or Variable servicing?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a 5 day old Octy 1.8 TSI DSG. Is there a way of finding out if the car is set on fixed or variable servicing? What oil do people recommend for topping up this engine?

Regards

if you switch off your engine, and press the odometer switch (holding it down for a few seconds), it will tell you when your service is due..if it's 18000 miles ish, or about 18 months ish, you're on variable..as for oil, mine has hardly used a drop

Great input. I asked this a few days ago, but didn't get a reply. Am I right in saying that Skoda do not recommend variable servicing unless you do 15-20k plus and run the vehicle on longer runs?

I'd agree with that

Having QG1 in the service book is no guarantee of variable servicing, all octy2's sold in the UK should have QG1 in the service book. They are usually modified to fixed at PDI if the owner requested it, however the service book will still show variable. The only sure fire way is to hook the car up to the dealers diag equipment or VCDS.

You have DSG so I'm guessing you have maxidot... If you go into the setup menu, there is a service interval (I think that's what it's called) section in there. That gives you the number of miles or the number of days til the next service.

If you don't have maxidot, ignore this message and it will self destruct in 10 seconds
