Yeah, think Nick's onto it there...although I'd say it's because larger cars lose their value more... ;)

Edited to add that the fridge wasn't included in the price, but

was a custom hand installation by a qualified professional. :D

Rob.

Is it full of cans of Carling, :dtp: or sensible non-alcoholic refreshments?

11 cans of Vanilla Coke and 4 Penguins (of the chocolate biscuit variety), as I went

shopping yesterday. Prior to that I had a single can of Vanilla Coke, a half drunk bottle

of Lemon Fanta, and two cans of Kaliber. Having proper lager would only be for other

people's benefit, and you know my attitude on that... ;)

It is useful for cooling drinks when going to barbeques and the like, as people tend

not to provide decent alternatives for the driver...usually includes the word "Diet"...

Rob.

I usually just have a two litre bottle of "pop" strapped in the boot for emergencies. I've not used the cooling feature in the glovebox for a can of something. That's one feature I doubt I will ever use, nor will any future owner either I reckon. My only "food" is normally a pack of Wrigley's Extra - anything more substantial requires a stop off at a supermarket or a Maccy-D's drive thru... :D

I've been jumping from one crdit card to another for 18 months now, taking advantage of their 0% interest for six months promotions. About a month before the promotion ends, you get a letter telling you of the interest rate that you will be charged. When you get that - its time to start surfing the net for the next promotion.

The secret is - once you have transfered your balance DO NOT make any purchases with that card. Dont worry about the Barclaycard promotion. In answer to an earlier point, yes they are the company most likely to scr#w (all at least try to) and anyway - there are many more companies out there who will let you transfer your balance at 0% no other restriction/catches.

Maccy-D's drive thru... :D

Would that be a McDrive then, or have you not suffered the same

rebranding down there? :D

Small cars hold their value better than larger ones in this country.

Not just with you - everywhere. Then add the fact that the Octavia will be replaced within the year...

Guys!

Thanx for the concern , no you all havent scared me away , im off to the Pub now! (and up at 5am to go to London tomorrow courtesy of twin Napier power!...sorry , its a train thing!)

Hi Duncan,

not to worry about the remap!

You just got to do what you feel is right  ...........

........and if you're still interested I'll try and arrange another group remap next year.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Adrian - Make a mental note to consider me for the group remap next year. My warranty expires in late June, but I'd be tempted to "sod it" earlier than that and get mine remapped. :D

How about a weekend meet up in Duncans neck of the woods in the near future to give Duncan a boost?- I was close last weekend I think Whitby area? but did get lost and nearly go over the Humber bridge but thats another story.

About 4hr drive for me Duncan wouldt need to drive far and I know he would like to meet us and us him - all thats needed is to find a suitable wekend when hes not on overtime etc Mid July onwards is Ok with me - any thoughts?

Duncan,

If you can afford it keep the car. You could stop using the car for a month or so use public transport/lifts/pushbike/taxi and save on road tax and servicing until funds improve.

John

I have decided to keep the car , i have discovered that one of my loans (costs me 155 PCM) is finished this october which will give me a few more quid spare per week. I had thought of writing a credit card cheque for this and paying it off now, then transferring the balance onto an Egg card (0% for 6 mnts) and paying it off this way. Also thought about refinancing the car with a personal loan as interest rates are pretty low now and i think i could save 100 quid PCM doing this , the downside being I will be paying for it till it is 7 years old. Combined savings of doing these options approx 255 squid a month! Also RE the tax , i have learned we are getting our attendance bonus at work paid at the end of this month , should be worth

Well done mate, Keep thing tight & it will be OK. If you want something badly enough it can be achieved somehow.

Stuart

Congratulations, Duncan. Pleased to hear the good news!

Good on ya Duncan. I had to consolidate debts too 3 years ago when I bought a house, totalled my car and drive around in rentals until the insurance paid out (slow fsckers when it has to come out of their pockets :(). Still paying of the consolidated loan (ends end of year iirc), along with a new PL for the skud... Only 60 payments to go ;)

Q.

Consolidated has to be better than spread around as long as it doesn't mean those sharks who advertise on the TV. Credit cards are not generally the place to have money tied up unless it's part of an interest free transfer offer. You need to keep on top of those or you will wind up paying handsomely.

Do you have a mortgage? Traditionally the cheapest form of loan and often you can slap some more on the mortgage to pay off other more expensive loans. You do end up paying for a long time though...

Well done Duncan , pleased to hear you are keeping the car !

I actually meant, consolidated as in taking out another loan (on cheaper interest) and paying of the old loan with some of the new loan. It does mean borrowing slightly more on the 2nd loan (to pay for the 1st loan), but due to better interest rates, terms, etc. it works out that I keep the same monthly payments.

I'm not a big fan of a remortgage, although for expensive loans (long or high loans) it is the best way.

Q.

With a flexible mortgage you can borrow extra over different terms but at the mortgage interest rate,

we financed part of wendys Octavia this way but will repay it within 3 years, It was the cheapest loan we could find.

Stuart

Duncan - I refinanced the car using a loan - Saves me nearly
