Sorry Guys , But....

Featured Replies

I have had to call up and cancel my Jabba remap (so 21 July PM is free) At the end of the day , I just could not justify going ahead with it , A- because my bank balance is depleted and B- i rarely use the full potential of the car as it is (most of the time its either stuck in traffic or doing the 2 miles to work and back , then sitting in the garage). I now dont think I will be doing anything to the car at all , in fact I may even get rid of it and buy something cheap and slow. Depressing , but , thats what reality usually is. I hope you all have fun with your cars

Cheers.

Duncan!

You sound like you're leaving the forums forever??!!? What has happened that has made you turnaround 180 degrees?

Q.

Duncan,

Take the vRS out for weekend thrash, then see how you feel.:D

Duncan

What ever you decide to do with the RS you don't have to stop posting.

Sounds like something has happened to cause a 'reality check'. I think that happens to us all from time to time. It's very easy to settle down and surf through the messages here, there's so much good stuff about tuning, mods and encouragement from others. But then you turn away from Briskoda and reality hits you, that increased insurance premium, council tax, the family wanting a holiday, last christmas's credit card bill... the list goes on. But that's reality...CRAP sometimes.

I'm already on low 'cause of my - out of warranty -

Yeah I guess 'reality check' is what it was. I wont stop posting or reading Briskoda , even if I do decide to get rid of the car , but if i start to tune it and mod it , then unfortunately im gonna have no money for other stuff (or bills , and an already 4 figure credit card debt) , or even money to just go for long trips in it (silverstone , rockingham ect). A car is no fun if all you can do is drive it round town for an hour and park it up , coz u have no money for fuel! Worst of all , it needs a service , and road tax all in the next month , so even if i wanted rid of it now , id still have to spend cash on it! Oh well ' **** happens , i guess!

Duncan , really sorry to hear you have had to cancel your remap , I know from reading your posts how much you would have liked to have it done :(

Hope you don't do anything rash about getting rid of your vRS , I realise that finances may dictate that , but look on the bright side , as in the words of good old Del Boy , this time next year you might be a millionaire :D

Ok guys, lets have some practical suggestions to help Duncan.

Lets assume that getting rid of the vRS is a last resort....

With regards to your credit card bill. Have you checked out the 0% APR Card deals?.

Egg.com, Virgin etc all give you 6 months interest free, its a good way to keep your monthly payment up, but reduce the balance by not paying interest on the unpaid debt each month ;)

When 1 six month period runs out, simply jump to another card

Secondly.

A 2 mile journey to work ?

How about buying a bike mate? It'll save you petrol AND keep you in shape, thereby leaving juice in the tank for fun & games :)

If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to add :)

Just got a mailshot today from Barclaycard, for a Visa card, with zero percent on balance transfers......for the life of the balance.....only stipulation you use the card at least once per month. Monthly rate on purchases, if you add to the balance 9.9%.

Sounds to good to be true,

 Paul

hmmm interesting, BarclayCard are usually the No.1 Rip-Off Kings

OK a thought.

If you have a mortgage have you remortgaged in the last year, if not look around at the deals available, you may be able to reduce your payments & also borrow extra to clear your debt but remember. use this as a "once only" fix & tear up the credit card. Its too easy to get into the "remortgage every time you are in debt syndrome. Look for a fairly simple mortgage like Virgin one & dont go to any with tie ins. Also with cash backs remember you pay for it anyway.

If you have to sell the RS look seriously at the Octy Diesel. We have an Diesel Octy & a 4x4, If times got hard the Diesel would be the one to keep, Its averaging just under 50 mpg & is remarkably quick for an oil burner & thats without chipping.

Also you may be able to save the cost of tax & service by PX ing before its due, I gather the dealers are having a crap time at the moment but the RS prices are holding up fairly well so you may get a good px against a diesel. remember to try several dealers, also a newish car will still have some warranty which gives peace of mind when times are hard.

Stuart

I was shown the Barclaycard 0% thing by someone on this site - a good trick is to setup a

If you're really looking to get a cheap runabout, then buy a nice little Fabia. You save money and you're still a fully qualified Briskodian :)

Doh! Beat me to it! :D

Though I'm quite surprised how much Fabias are - depreciation

keeps even the 1.4MPi at only a grand or two beneath the value

of a 1.6 Octavia. And you get a CD changer and aircon with the

Octavia, as well as it being insurance group 8. :D

Rob.

Or get a 2-litre Fab - still a lot cheaper and pretty brisk!

Duncan, sorry to hear about your plight. Very wise reality check, though. A 180hp turbo car is not the best means to cover a 3-mile distance, let alone a chipped one...

SPC,

I've just ordered the following:

2x FRONT WISHBONE INNER BUSH (FRONT)

2x FRONT WISHBONE INNER BUSH (REAR)

2x FRONT ANTI ROLL BAR MOUNT

2x FRONT ANTI ROLL BAR LINK BUSH KIT

1x STEERING RACK MOUNT BUSH

1x FRONT ENGINE MOUNT DOG BONE

2x REAR BEAM MOUNTING BUSH

All in lovely polyurethane, so shouldn't rot/crack/split as quickly as the standard rubber ones. Oh and I get a fringe benefit that it'll handle better. Total cost

Buy a bike?

Unfortunately the 2-litre Fab is only available in Elegance trim here - which is just over

Fabia second hand prices seem to be holding quite high, which is nice. ( a la Heineken ad )

I often look through the local rag and scan the motoring to see if any Fabia's are advertised, and I'm yet to find even ONE! - I expect Auto Trader has a few though - I'm going to have a look now.

Have a look on the Skoda website for what stock the dealers have as well

Skoda website was pretty good and informative for 2nd hand Fabia's. There was a Y reg elegance trim with 30,000 miles on there for a shade over

Hmmm. Could it be the (no offence) the Octavia is an established model within Skoda and so the prices have dropped a bit quicker. The same could happen once the Fabia's been out as long, I suppose. They started in the W reg didn't they - thats about 4 years already. edit: correction - thats nearer three years isn't it, * 1, 2, err, 4.

Perhaps the Fabia's are holding their value because the rear wiper gives a wipe when the fronts are on and you put it in reverse? :D (and the Octavia doesn't)

Small cars hold their value better than larger ones in this country. I think it's as simple as that.
