 Heres a guide of how to gain access to the relays fitted behind the dash and also how to gain access to the back of the drivers door fusebox to add extra circuits, first of all prise off the fusebox plastic cover - IMG_3990.jpg and remove the torx (t20) screw fitted on the edge, also remove the 2 torx screws fitted in the bottom of the trim above the pedals - IMG_4047.jpg next gently lever off the small piece of trim on the left of the steering wheel to reveal another torx screw that requires removal -IMG_3986.jpg next the tricky bit also prise out the piece of trim between the lighting switch and the steering wheel on the right hand side (didn't want to snap it) just enough to reveal another torx screw for removal - IMG_3987-1-1.jpg the top of the trim has a keyway on each side of the steering wheel and so has to come out about 1/2 inch for it to be able to drop down, as it comes down the wires will go tight on the OBD socket at the very bottom on the right which has one clip in the bottom center and two at the top edges -IMG_4049.jpg which you prise/relise out from the back, once the OBD socket is loose you should be able to remove the under dash trim - IMG_3984.jpg if you only want access to the relays you can leave the OBD socket connected to the trim as in this pic - IMG_3948.jpg if you want to add extra circuits to the fuse block now is the time to disconnect the battery so make sure all your doors are open and the keys are removed, there are 2 torx screws holding the fuseblock in place (I used an allen key for longer reach) and there are 3 plastic clips holding the back on the fuse block - IMG_3969.jpg with the cover removed you will see a small clip which holds the sliding purple plastic connection locking crate, with a small screwdriver gently release the clip to allow the purple plastic to slide to allow access to the fuse connections (shown here unlocked) -IMG_3965.jpg you should have picked which type of connection you want either permanent or ignition controlled etc and which fuse hole outputs are empty , there is no need to remove any fuses to be able to insert the contacts from behind - IMG_3950.jpg for contacts see next post.

 When the contacts IMG_3958.jpg are inserted in the correct holes (they have small barbs which click in ) you insert a screwdriver between the side plastic and the purple sliding plastic and return the catch into the locked position - IMG_3951.jpg the 'repair' cables are yellow about 12" long and double ended and will require a joint in the loom which would require soldering and then insulating with a heatshrink sleeve -IMG_3968.jpg if you insert the connection in the wrong spare hole you will have a right job to remove it as you have to fold back the barbs on the connector, there looks as though there are 3 types of fuse connector 2 small and 1 large and with differant sizes of wire attached, I used 2 types from a VW dealer - 000979227E 2.5mm cable and 000979306E 4mm cable. refit in reverse and jobs a good en - Stuart. If I wanted to install wiring for satnav how would i got about locating a free ignition switched fuse slot? I gather this is possible without having to add any circuits but I'm not sure how to work out which slot(s) would be suitable.

Hi Mackie, If you test the input (eg live side with no fuse fitted) connection and see which one is live with the ignition on,also have a look on whats connected either side of the empty fuse position and that will give you a clue if its permanent live or switched around that area, sat nav won't take much current so it shouldn't overload the circuits. cheers - Stuart

Hi, sorry to jump on this post.

Having same problem as some others regarding washer and heater blower and rear wiper not working.

Have read the other threads on hear regarding 'x releif relay'.

Is this relay pictured above?

Thanks
