Featured Replies

hi, anyone know what would constitute a reasonable price to fit front discs and pads+fuel filter?

and also fitting new shocks and springs to all 4 corners?

labour only. i'm getting the parts.

once place i asked local to me quoted £90+vat to fit front discs and pads, and also change fuel filter. parts supplied by me.

is that ok?

Hi Newskoda

That is possibly like asking how long is a piece of string !

Is it a main dealer, or what I call a back street garage, and of course the hourly rate.

The main dealer is likely to charge a menu type charge, and you would get charged for each job, ie, Pad, Discs, and strut, where as the pads and disc would have to

be taken off to do the strut job, so would be very expensive,

but a good back street garage, would just charge a overall labor rate, and would be poss cheaper any way.

At a guess the whole job should take a mechanic with all tools should not take more than 4 hrs so at £40 hr so should be about £160 +Vat

But the cheapest way is to do your self, not too big of a job, and the only specialized tools would be a spring clamp and (I think) a 22mm ring spanner and Allen keys.

and Jacks, Axle stands.

thanks and it's a back street garage. £160+vat seems ok for springs, shocks

But £90 to fit discs, pads and a fuel filter does seem alot. Its an hour job to do i think.

I'd leave it to the experts as i'd struggle i think.

fuel filter is 5min job, pads+disks about 15-20min a side,

then springs shocks just depends on how easy everything comes apart, say 3hours

£90 to fit pads and discs is a joke IMO, i doubt the dealers would charge that much, the one local to me is very reasonable on labour

thanks Brun, you're right it is a mad price. I managed to get them down to £80 inc vat for this. But they did say that their hourly rate is £75+vat. frigging hell thats more than a dealer!!

I have been quoted £45 inc vat by another mechanic. I know both fairly well, so know the work is good and its a simply job for them.

Another garage quoted me £80+vat (they are local to where i work)

I am consdiering the 1st option still because it is the most convenient

I recently had springs, front discs and pads fitted. All parts supplied by me. Labour charge was £180+vat.

I thought this was a reasonable enough price.
