Turbo clogging up - Information?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am looking to get a vRS within the next few weeks/months I have heard that on these engines that the turbo can get clogged up with carbon and therefore has to be replaced. I am not an expert on any of this but I am assuming that it get clogged up by not putting your foot down enough.

Is the cause of this not giving the engine abit of a blow out now and again or does this problem generally occur on the PD130 engines?

Regards

Chris

Imo it will only become coked up if not driven properly or looked after. As long as you give it a good run on the motorway or similar now and again it will help. I give my car an italian tune up once every 2 weeks by revving it to 4200 rpm and holding it there for a few seconds. It will help unblock the veins.changing oil regularly will also help.

i've heard some turbo's lasting 120k and others that go after 20k, but it depends on how its treated also.

I agree. Changing the oil very reguarly <10k miles and generally looking after the car, warming the engine before booting it and letting it idle before killing it, all the little things add life to the engine and components.

If you are buying one then check the history, any more than 15k miles between services and id say your in for a turbo before 100k.

Italian tune up plus the elephant hose mod. Changing up after 3,000 RPM will keep the turbo clean.

Ive heard this ''elephant hose mod'' mentioned but actually is it? emoticon-0148-yes.gif
