Needle Sweep

Does anyone's car do this?

http://www.youtube.c...h?v=rbGbNt4KAkQ

It looks cool and I'd like it, but does anyone know if it can be set up via VCDS on a pre-FL?

Edited by willskoda

the FL demo I drove did it.

Mine does it too, but mine's a FaceLift too

You lot and your facelifts :strong:

:dull:

Looking forward to this on my newly order FL. As you say my current non FL does not do this and I suspect that it can not be coded to do it either.

really sorry, didn't read the "pre-FL" bit of your post......:doh:

It's ok, you just go off and enjoy your shiny facelifted vRS, see if I care emoticon-0106-crying.gif

if only i could.......doesn't get delivered for another 6 weeks...... :'(

Mine has done it from new, and its non FL , got it in March 2009

What dials do you have? Are the temp/fuel dials on the top or at the bottom?

Certainly my 56 VRS does not do this so could be something on later VRS models just before the FL changeover. I know the special edition VRS had the FL interior but not exterior so could have had the sweep montion.

Waiting in anticpation for The Ships Cat to reply...

The Temp and Fuel dials are in the same position as in Wills video, I do not have maxidot , The car was new on display in the showroom, saw it and bought it, WAITING TIME 4 DAYS : :devil::devil:

Ah, you have a part face-lift model then. Looks like mine won't be doing it any time soon!

If you have the option, it will most likely be here:

Instruments Controller

07 - Coding

Use the Long Coding Helper and click on each of the byte numbers.

This should show you the selectable options and if you see a tickbox for "Gauge Test/Needle Sweep active" then you should have the option to turn it on/off.

Of course there is no certainty that this will work, so make sure you save the coding before you try anything so you can roll it back.

All at your own risk too if you do try it and anything breaks.

My old Subaru did this, always thought it looked a bit naff! :giggle:

hehe mine does that and its no a FL. But it has the full new dash from FL. :giggle:

I can tell you that unless you have the facelifted dash pod this will never work.

The controller is not available in non face lifted dash pods, not necessarily FL cars but you need the dash pod as shown in the video.

Some pre-face lifted models got the newer dash when they started doing the vRS LE's.

Now wether the FL DashPod fits in a non FL car is another question ;)

Any amount of money or effort, no matter how small, is more than this 'functionality' is worth.

Can the guys with VagTacho that are always fiddling with the instrument cluster firmware do anything for this? Probably not possible but wonder if they could do anything like dumping FL firmware into a non FL dashpod (what do you call a long shot when it's so long you can't see the end? :giggle: ).

There was a guy on here or maybe uk-mkivs.net and he had managed to get the needles lit up in a prehistoric dash pod modifying the firmware in the dashpod.

LOL!

Quality. :giggle:

My April 2010 Scout does not do this. If someone can help us how to enable if possible with VCDS I'll buy him a beer ;)

It's funny all you lot like this.

I used to have a Focus, and they do it, but only the first time you start the car after disconnecting the battery.

Mine did it on every start though cos the electrics were nackered!!! Always found it a bit irritating...

Mine did it on every start though

Hope you charged extra for the "upgraded dashpod" when you sold it :giggle: to be fair that's a common problem on focus's, ford do the replacement parts much cheaper because of it (still about £300 IIRC).

Indeed; if it had been a matter of ticking a box in VCDS then I'd have done it, certainly won't be getting a new dash pod!!
