TT Arch Mod Cost!

Featured Replies

just got off the phone to West London Audi and going on part 8n0821172b and they said the part was £37 i not sure if that inc vat i think so.

But still i though most peeps had paid aroung £18 for theirs?!

Will it be same price in all audi dealer i would think so?

Have you considered a power drill and some time?

I assume you want to put intercooler holes into the arch liner?

B&Q for an air vent  done this on my Fabia vRS :D

They used to be 18 quid, but apparently they've now gone up to £37 inc, because of the january price re-structuring, or so they say.

Was looking to get one for the octy, but couldn't justify £40 on it..

Mine was just over £20 I think - I bought it in late 2008. Some of the members who did theirs years ago paid £18 or less.

It's a lot of money for a wheelarch liner you are only going to cut a 5 inch by 4 inch section out of - as the others have said it's a lot cheaper to just drill a load of (neat) holes in it.

get a vent from a build merchant for a house, screwfix do a few, can get plastic and bendy ones and will cost a lot less than a tt one.

Get to B&Q and buy a cheap vent. That's what I done and a lot cheaper

yer was just looking for a cheap mod the arch vent looked at lot more sorted or OEM than drilling lots of holes!

whats this in aid of? I take it for improved cooling for the intercooler? Can someone point me to a thread on what to do? Is it a worth while mod?

Someone is having a laugh. A mate bought one last week. £23 incl VAT.

Make sure you use a plastic vent of some kind that is angled downward. It prevents crud getting through the holes. If you go with the no cost option (drilling holes) you will need to remove the compost from behind the wheel arch liner every now and then.

This mod really does make a difference.

Does anyone know if the intercooler on a 110TDi is in the same place as on your VRs's? And if it would make any difference doing this to a TDi?

Hmm, day off tomorrow, sun is out, need an excuse to buy a jigsaw cutter. Feel this maybe on the agenda :) is just the drivers side that needs to be done? Also what is the part called from B&Q?

do you take the arch liner out before chopping it, or can you chop it whilst its in place?

here's mine

hi there guys.

just did the mod yesterday.

took the left arch liner from Hyundai Tucson 4x4 '03 and later (not sure if it's sold in the U.K. but still), search by p/n 86811-2E000, it's worth about 10 gbp.

we only need a grille part which fits almost perfect, and cut the rest with a sharp knife.

By the way Hyundai grille part is almost 1/3 bigger than Audi one so I suppose it's better for cooling.

here's a pic showing both Skoda and Hyundai parts in comparison:

the next one is a grille part to check its size against our SMIC:

and almost the final one - the place it will be glued to:

after that i've cut out the holes in the native arch liner saving the #-shaped ribs on its back side - just in case

now thinking about which glue to use and if it's good to additionally fix the grille to place with some assembly buckles or something like this.

Opinions?

I have a grill from a fiat brava sitting in the shed - £3 from the scrappers.

I'd use some of the black silicon stuff, it tones in with the liner. i've rivetted mine with six pop rivets as well as gluing it, it's been on there for so long now the rivets have gone dark and it looks like it's part of the liner

Yes, and the difference is noticeable even on an unmapped 110 TDi, when it is driven hard in hot weather.

If you use TigerSeal, you don't need anything else

rang up about that becuase it looked intresting, £25.28+vat. so a bit cheaper. but still...

I just done mine today. It took about an hour in total, thanks to the wheel not going back on without hassle.

I went to B&Q and got a alu vent -£4.16 and a tin of outdoor black spray paint - £6.99.

Then I took a trip to tesco and bought a 710w jigsaw for £9.

I didn't use the idea of glueing, couldnt see why I would need to. The screws held tight enough.

Rather than cutting a massive hole for all of it I cut two indivdual holes, so that I could have a center bar to drill and attach too.

Well thats pretty much it lol, have pictures if you want to see.
