Stereo Attenuator

Featured Replies

Is it me but does the standard crap RS stereo have a really annoying sound level attenuator fitted to it?

I have recently disconnected all tweeters :D and I notice that now when I crank the stereo up a little, if the track playing is particularly loud, the stereo suddenly automatically fades the volume  . I'm assuming that this is in vain attempt to protect those "quality" speakers fitted as standard (ho ho!)

Also I notice that the stereo goes up to 47  on the dial but the loudest I can get anything to reach is 30 :( , which is not that loud really.

Well when funds allow, I'm gonna junk the whole sorry setup   .

Mind you I hope I still won't be experiencing the trim vibrating and rattling along with the music still.

Answers on a postcard please.............

I dunno about the attenuator but My stereo sounds pretty good now I've gone into the setup menu and turn off 'LOUD' and lowered the road noise compensation feature. Still naff all Bass but I can crank it up to 47 (not a good idea though). :?

Do you know what size the speakers are on the Octa ?

I don't really care to much about the Tweeters but I'm guessing the fronts are 16.5cm (6.5") and the rears, :? well they look like slighly large tweeters :x so I'll probably put some 6.5" 's on the Parcel shelf.

Cheers I'll try that, see if it makes a difference!!

Still won't stop the trim creaking and vibrating though (aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!)

I cant remember the size of the apeture but you may well be right at 16.5 one sure way is take one of the speakers out and see how many screw fixings there are. Decent stereo shops including Ripspeed at halford should know the size just by the number of screw fixings.

More important is to measure the amount of depth you have between door skin and panel.

Different manufacturers use different magnets of varying depth. You need one that will fit in without the use of adaptor plates.

Mine are infinity (slimline ) and are superb at reproducing Bass.

As for the rears you absolutely right ignore the original location and fit 6x9 or similar in the parcel shelf.

It will also cure the water running into them when you open the boot, well it wont cure it but at least then it wont run into your speakers

Yep, I think 16.5 cm is right for the front door. I got some Sony XS-A 1724 coaxial replacements for my MX-5 recently and I'm pretty sure the instructions that came with them said they would fit the Octavia. They are shallow depth speakers though, so just make sure before you buy.

Cheers!
