Mk1 VRS Suspension options?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I need to sort out the suspension on my mk1 VRS, it was handling horribly and wondering /bouncing all over the road before, but now one of the front coils has snapped so needs sorted asap.

I replaced the front shocks/top mounts/lower arms about 20k miles ago with standard VAG parts. Also, the front ARB was replaced 35k miles ago (might need looked at again?)

,

I dont really want to go the OEM route again. What can I fit that might last a little longer(and hopefully tighten the car up a bit), but it has to be at reasonable money, it is a daily thrasher and I dont want to spend a fortune on Koni FSD's etc at £400+springs.

Do any of the cheaper coilovers work, or are they rubbish? Or can anyone recommend some decent shock and spring combo's? Also, do normal Octavia shocks fit the VRS and what I have read seems to be controversial?

Thanks all :)

Trev

hi mate, weitec coilovers are tried and tested here for around 400ish and are very very good, r32 21 or 23mm front arb as an upgrade, eibach/whiteline/neuspeed rear arb as an essential upgrade.

you can uprate your bush to poly, inc wishbones to help tighten things up.

I would not fit standard octy springs on the vrs, they are weighted differently. also dont use old shocks new springs, not a good combo, some use koni fsd shocks and an spring upgrade however this is more expensive but more confortable and less adjustable than the coilover route.

There are cheaper coilovers out there like jom, however i chose weitec over this type of brand as weitec are basically KW stuff.

i have a set of weitecs in the for sale section

i've got weitec's fitted and highly recommend them

As mentioned the Weitec's are a very good option and very popular with other forum members.

Could we sticky one of the gazallion threads about this? There's only a small number of options that are verified to be ok for the vRS, but it's asked every couple days....

yup get the coilovers that westallc is selling and you have a bargain that will be better than the JOM kit!

Many thanks for the replies!!!

I would have the coilovers but unfortunately someone beat me to it!

Now, who uses these JOM ones, are they anygood, price etc? cant find much on google oh, and I take it these are ok with the vRS? I am sorry, spend ages searching but its a nightmare!

Thanks again :)

Not having a go at you Trev, just it gets asked a lot, so it would seem obvious we should have a sticky. This thread is very useful and contains most, if not everything, of what should be in the sticky:

Ive got Jamex coilovers on my octy vrs and it handles like on rails,im very happy with them despite what other people on hear say about them.

I have these en route as we speak and should be fitted along with new bushed, drop links and top mounts so I'll feed back how I get on with them on track at the weekend

What was it like then?

Cheers :)

It was far better than the standard set up but I'm going to go for some thicker ARBs as there was still a good amount of lean in the tighter corners.

Overall though they seemed pretty solid (even if I do need to raise it slightly because I kept rubbing the chin on the undulating surface of Rockingham's BTCC track!)

Wow thats sitting low. Is there any rubbing during normal driving? how harsh is the ride for daily driving (I have a 2 year old that travels with me)

Absolutely no rubbing at all! I even had it on track at the weekend and it didn't rub once (other than the front bumper on the ground!)

It does seem very harsh at the moment but I take my 2 year old and 5 year old out in it and they haven't been sick yet :p

I will actually be raising the rear up slightly at some point soon, however as it's a bit "nose up" at the moment
