Roomster Scout Towbar price

Featured Replies

We decided to get a tow bar fitted by the dealer, as the new Scout is still with them waiting collection. Had the factory prep done so I thought the tow bar fitting would be pretty reasonable. I am still in shook. They want £733.64 for fitting a detachable tow bar with single socket. That makes the total for fitting a tow bar to a Skoda scout £833.64 can somebody explain how this price is justified. You can buy a tow bar for £140 for the Scout with fittings.

Info from the dealer that maybe useful to those who tow vans/trailer tents.

The factory Towbar prep is a bigger Intercooler and Alternator.

The breakdown of the £733.64. Its not for publication, but Skoda need 4.5 hours to do a 1 hour job.

Looks like I will be getting the vehicle serviced in France.

Unbelievable.

my towbar cost about £350 on a 07 roomster 2, it was ordered as new with the towbar fitted before delivery

the dealer that supplied it had a local towbar specialist fit it and the electrics

might be worth shopping round your local trailer suppliers to get a couple of quotes

I had one fitted when I bought mine 12 months ago, I don't recall the exact price but it was about £150, it was a bit cheaper here as we don't pay VAT but I see the brochure price is now £185 plus £67 for the electrics.

At the time the dealer quoted about £150 to fit it but I negotiated to have it fitted it as part of the deal and I just paid for the towbar.

I would try the independant suppliers, many of them come up on Google so you should have a choice near you.

Incidentally I don't have the intercooler or bigger alternator and had no trouble towing an 800 kg caravan 2000 odd miles last year when some the time the temperature reached the mid 30s.

Maybe some one knows why or what Skoda do on this modification for the money. What they could mean is the Turbo has been upgraded as its doing a lot of work on the 1.6 TDI will be of interest to those who use the car for pulling.

I had a Westfalia one fitted (same as Skoda one) by a local fitter to my 08 Scout. Cost about £450 and Skoda wanted ove £550 for the same.

For my new Volvo v50 Lloyds Volvo in Carlisle supplied and fitted a Witter fixed twbar and single electrics, plus software upgrade for £380. Volvo dealers are meant to be expensive. Gave me a loan car for the day too and I did not buy my car from them.

I would get a second opinion on what the towbar prep cosists of. Apart from X5 BMW's I've never heard of the alternator or intercooler upgrade. Most opinion on here is that it is just an additional wiring loom that may already be there.

It certainly was in my case. The towbar electrics just connect onto the existing loom somehow. The only thing that doesn't work is the trailer indicator warning light on the instrument panel. apparently that only works when it's a factory fitted option. That seems a very strange thing to me.

thats just a software upgrade on the Volvo as is turning off the rear foglight when towing so it does not reflect on the trailer/caravan.

My dealer asked the Skode Techs who said it can't be done.

Great I've paid £100 for a warning light lol.
