Dreytek on Be

Featured Replies

I recently got a 2820N and popped in my Be settings. I note that they have rather unusual VCI and VPI settings, instead of the usual.

I originally set it up, with 2 WLAN networks, one at full security and one with WEP for the Wii etc and casual access. There seems to be an issue with routing though. I *think* the issue lies in the wireless setup, as website browsing when hard-wired to the router.

This was the other week and I've not had chance to have another play, so have plugged by Netgear back in for now (have spent too much time troubleshooting work networks recently, so not really in the mood to mess about with the Draytek when I get home! :S)

So just wondered if anyone's running a Draytek on Be, and if they faced any issues or niggles?

Cheers,

Steve

Good choice ;)

Ill check my settings tonight.. there are a few "nuances" ive found in wireless settings of late but thought they had all been ironed out in firmware updates

It was all you bloody lot on here that got me looking at them! But the multiple SSID support clinched it really :)

Would be good if you could check. I started with a reset and latest firmware update (following good practice ;)) so thought I'd have nipped any such nuances in the bud - but perhaps not!

In searching I've seen a bit of chatter about Be settings, but they just seemed to be noting that they were different to pretty much any other ADSL-based ISP. So knowing what the settings should be, and that they worked on my Netgear, I thought all should be well. And perhaps they are, and it's just a wireless glitch - but as I only have a server that permanently hard-wired to the router, I can't be 100%.

Cheers,

Steve

I'll be doing it soon hopefully as the bebox is crap. Will be good to see how you get on.

My brother is running a 2820 on o2 (same as Be). I would start by ensuring you have the latest firmware on the device.....

Oh yes, that's been done - see my post #3 :)

Might get to actually have a look at it this week... :dull:

Update (for those of you interested!)

Got round to looking at the settings this week and it's now up and running. There's an update from Dreytek dated June 2010 FYI, so applied that too and started from scratch. It's obviously more robust than my still reasonable Linksys - gets a better line speed and the wireless signal is more consistent too - is happier carrying a 1080i streamed video file for example. Quicker getting to server shares too.

Still have a slight issue with the LAN side though, in that it doesn't seem to be dishing out DHCP settings correctly; I have clients set manually at the moment. Col - could you email me over a few screenshots from your setup please, to see if I've missed anything. I feel it's something DNS related.

Also it seems to be running at 54Mbps, rather than full N-spec speed. Whether that's my wireless card though is still to be determined. If there's any N related settings on the router that people have noticed need tweaking, please shout.

Recommended bit of kit though, for the more 'serious' home user  - even if the config is a bit fearsome!

Cheers,

Steve

Ahh another update... ill check that out!.. although i know one of the previous updates were related to DHCP addresses on wireless.. ill have a look at the settings tonight!

As for the wireless being at 54.. its probably a combination of the security settings on the router and your wireless drivers.. i think for WPA/2 N wireless only works with AES encryption, although the router allows TKIP to be specified (for backwards compatibility) - its one of those grey areas with N being a draft standard for so long.. i fell into the trap after updating wireless drivers the speed dropped back to 54mb, changing to AES fixed that problem.

Cheers Col

Update is 3.3.4 or something similar - dated June 2010.

Thanks for the info on the wireless/N-spec issue. Will check that out.
