Maxidot Question

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what Comf. Indic. does on the Maxidot? Most of the menus are reasonably self explanatory but this one has got me baffled!

I think this is the 3 flashes of the indicators when you flick the stalk. I find it useful for overtaking on motorways etc.. means the stalk doesn't have to be 'clicked' all the way up/ down hence the indicators aren't left on.

Does everyone else find it easy to use?

I can't get used to it. Never seem to give it enough of a push to activate the feature and then when i consciously push it a bit more i end up going past the click :giggle: hopeless, but dunno if it's just me

it does take a while to get used to it but it becomes second nature once you do.

I love the conv. indicators and really miss it when I drive cars without it. I use it all the time.

I love it too, a real help on short overtakes and changing lanes.

I tried it for two weeks once I got my motor and I can't stand it - I prefer the Vaux Astra system where you can cancel it by pushing the stalk in the same direction.

I've been doing the three ticks for years anyway.

I had a rather embarassing first overtake with my Octavia with this system enabled as each time I cancelled the indicator I pushed it slightly too far to get the three flashes, so thinking I'd clicked it too far I clicked it back down, back up etc.. before finally getting them switched off. I do like having the feature now I'm used to it, particularly for switching lanes. 5 flashes sounds more useful than 3 though.

Thanks for this info. I have had this function on a previous car and once you get the hang of it, it is quite useful.

Have had this on my previous and current Octy. Took me a while to get used to but now think it's a really useful feature, especially for changing lanes on my looooong commute to work.

Has anybody had the 'pleasure' of trying Vauxhall's weird and wonderful 'multi-tap- indicators? Absolutely pants.

Yes, I've had that pleasure and I absolutely hated them for the first few hundred miles, but you get used to them and they become easier to use. Are they better than other indicator stalks? I'd say no, but I don't think they're any worse in reality

I do use the comfort indicators on the Octy, and if VAG went down the route that Vauxhall have then I suspect everyone would complain bitterly for a while and then when everyone was used to them would be saying, "actually, they're ok..."

I got used to the three-flash lane-change almost immediately.... so much so, that a car without it (I've been testing a few recently) seems to be missing something. To be fair, one of the ones I drove had the indicator stalk on the right (like all RHD cars used to have), which takes far more getting used to, but nevertheless...

One of the more useful and subtle features to my mind.

Great feature and really miss it if in another car.

However, the Vauxhall one (that was in the last Vectra - are they still using it) is pants. You invariably end up indicating in the wrong direction as you try to cancel it.

 Had a test drive in a Citreon once and the indicators were on the top of the instrument pod and it was a rocker switch which DIDN'T CANCEL and put me off me Citreons for life. cheers - Stuart

I wouldn't have thought 3 indicator flashes was sufficiently long to use as a change direction indicator. A lot of motorists indicate when they are performing the manouver instead of indicating their intention of overtaking or turning. A longer warning to other motorists would make them aware of what you intend to do rather than what you are doing so giving them advance warning.

Personally I've always found it enough. In time terms it probably equates to around 3 seconds, and while that may not sound a lot when you are travelling at speed you actually cover a lot of distance in that time, and so consequently it is pretty much perfect for M-way lane changes - although I also find it just about right for anything else, and in fact the only time I usually have to push the stalk up to the constant flashing past the click is when stopped at a junction or in v slow moving traffic...

I tend to push it all the way on the motorway, prefer to give as much warning as possible and would rather 4 or 5 flashes on the motorway, it is good fo indicating off larger traffic islands though

had these on the vectra i have just sold, absoulte nitemare to get used to, but when you do, they are good, missing them allready, and ive only had my vrs a day !!!

I've been trying my heart out with these, can't get them to work reliably now  I just don't have the magic touch. Verified it's on in maxidot.
