Water under the Dash

Featured Replies

Have recently begun to get Really Wet feet in my 94 Favorit Pick Up. After close examination, have discovered that it's coming in THRU the heater air intake(especially when I wash the car or when parked on an uphill slope in the rain. It's just started to happen and I have had to remove all carpet and soundproofing as was drenched. After a good rainfall, I can be left with a couple of litres of water in the footwells.Anyone understand why this would be happening.Have blocked off the air intake for the time being but not so good for the winter weather.

Also, I would like to post some photos of my ute to show what I have done to it, but don't know how or where I should do this. Cheers

There's a drain at the bottom of the air inlet (in the engine bay) that should let the water run out, if that's blocked it could be it. It's definitely not coming in via the windscreen seal and running down the bulkhead?

NO. Windscreen has been out and all rust removed recently.Sealing has been double checked . Will check the drains tho.

Have found a drain at the front of the heater box under the bonnet, with some rubber flaps in. Looks clear but have removed the flaps for the time being to see if it makes any difference. Looking at it though, if the car was parked uphill, as it usually is, the water level will fill up the box until it is high enough to flow out of the front drains. In the meantime, it gets inside the fans and I guess, thats how it gets inside the car. I am thinking, I need to drill a couple of drain holes in the rear of the heater box to drain out the back. Still do not understand Why this has only recently begun to happen??????

In that heater box there should already be a drain, generally leaves and crap can get in though, take off the little clips, undo the the fan and take it out and clean it.

Also check the bulkhead / firewall - water can get in through unplugged holes there and run through into the footwells.
