My dream car, I love those motors. Cracking work as ever Simon. B)

Superb!!

Great job Baker....

...and the foot pedals are the same as mine!!!

amazing work mate you must work at 100mph! do you relax as your working on a job in that time scale or run from one job to the next getting hot and bothered. wish i could work to such a professional level at that speed - how long did the actual machining take. don't suppose you could give a mini rundown of each main job against hours spent could you ? like machining = 4hr, wheels = 2hr, glass = 1hr sort of thing? be interesting to read - congrats!

Thanks Alan, let's just say he is only 24 and is a business man, no drug dealer but the car will end up paying for itself................ ;)

Was a late post but needed to be done as I am taking the Superb on a Road Trip to France tomorrow.........

Yeah I am with you on that one mate, the only extra that would have been nice is the Carbon trim in the Engine Bay to match the side blades!!

My dream car, I love those motors. Cracking work as ever Simon.

Many thanks..........

Yeah, so many parts out of the VAG bin, it's crazy, the engine bay just looks like a Golf on steroids!!!

Thanks for the post mate and I can detail a few things but to be honest my details just follow a set process and you have to be realistic about what you can achieve in the time allocated.

Those that have been to see me and watched me work will know I don't stop for food and drink, no lunch breaks for me, the odd snack here and there but I am just motivated to get the job done.

I basically break the day up into the stages you see and know that ideally by 12-1pm I should be ready to start machining, then I allow up to 3 hours + for machine work otherwise I just won't finish, then it's a mad scramble to get all the small areas detailed and dressed.

It's obviously a lot more relaxed when I am working with Jules or Chris but then all that means is the standard of finish get's higher in my opinion..........

think thats what i need to do , plan the day better, spend to much time wandering round admiring the difference in the car as i go, and thinking what bit to tackle next. If your correcting by machine and using a compound first before finishing polish do you do the entire car with the harsher compound then go over the entire car with the finishing polish and pad ( guess to save keep swapping pads?) of do the entire finish on a panel at a time?

For me I spend time when I arrive laying everything out, all the prodcuts need a home and then I know whee to go for each product during the day, keep things tidy as you go along and only have out what you need, may sound silly but it's easier to work in that kind of environment or for me it is.

With these one day details, I have to try and achieve the best finish possible so I always correct and then follow up with a finishing polish after, sometimes I will do a panel at a time and sometimes if the paintwork is going well products like Megs 105 will refine down well enough that something like Z-AIO will replace the need to refine but that it all car specific really.........

thanks for the tips mate, i did a full paint correction on my octy last weekend, but ran out of time and didn't get the poor boys black hole in time to apply so will post it up soon as ive got that machined on, had time to remove and do the wheels and arches and put a layer of colli on top ;-)

Next car ive got after that is a Z3, hoping to get that done in one day as its a fair bit smaller and theres no roof to correct - looking forward to doing that one

Look forward to the writeup mate..........

Not worked on a Z3 but done a Z4, nice motor's but the bonnet takes a while................ :o

Nice work, Simon - great finish & was definitely very mucky to start off with! They are a nice car, but I'm not such a fan of the engine note (friend's landlord has an R8 and a Ferrari - the R8 sounds a little harsh and "nasal" in comparison)

Thanks for the comment and I know what you mean about the noise but I guess it also depends what engine he has? V8 or V10? At the end of the day it's a re-badged Lamborghini really but not being a massive fan of Ferrari's I would go with the R8............

I dunno ... haven't had a chance to get a close look at it, just hear it from a way away ... Quite a line of cars ... (also have a Continental GT & Abarth 500 SS)

Top job Simon B)

I have that warm happy feeling again :)

One day I must try to get my new car Detailed by you (A4 3.0tdi S Line), although I am a bit skint having just bought it :D

I’m also really impressed by all the stuff you take with you emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

Has the A4 arrived then? Yes, you need it detailing! Before it starts getting used and you fall into bad habits ;)

It’s well filthy! Got it last Friday and done nearly 1,000 miles. Brakes dust everywhere and not got a proper day off until middle of July. Had a quick jetwash and hit the wheels with Autoglym Wheel stuff (seems as good as Wonder Wheels and then a quick spray of dust repellent (it’s not too bad, although I suspect the stuff you detail nutters use is much better emoticon-0100-smile.gif)

You will be pleased to know the handling with the Sports Diff set to Dynamic is very wieldy indeed. Feels much more like a RWD than I would have thought possible and the economy on the motorway seems better than the 123d!!

Sorry for the mini hijack, I will post up a proper report in my ‘Stork’ thread when I find the time.
