Advice on buying a used a car

Featured Replies

Hello, i would like peoples opinion. Im interested in buying a used car 05 plate with great low milage of 37k miles. Spoke to the fella he says the car is in great working order has an RAC check car has had no previous documented problems, HPI clear, documents of last 3 MOT's and servicing documents from the dealers. But here come the weird part which worries me slightly. The car has had 4 previous owners making the fella the 5th and me to be 6th if i was to buy it. Surely something must of gone wrong, why so many owners? its like on average 1 owner per year, and with such low milage also. Im just so confused. What your opinions guys?!

Cheers

Sounds very suspicious ! Try and get details of previous owner (s) and ask them what mileage the car had and if they had any problems . Do the copies of old MOTs verfy the mileage ? Ask to see the RAC check docs .- remember there are different levels of checks applied by RAC. If in doubt you can always find another ! If tempted do a long test drive and get it checked / inspected by someone who knows what the're doing ( RAC or mechanic perhaps ). Also check VIN stamping / engraving . Check number plates have original dealers name- if not ask youself , why ? ( major accident repairs ? ) .

So if everything check out fine say by an RAC inspector, surely i can go ahead with it? I did the online stuff, says the car has not been stolen or had write off's etc. The car just seems to good to be true, i just can't see why there are so many owners on such a low mileage 05 plate car. :dull:

As the saying goes - if it seems to good to be true...........it probably is.

I recently sold a car back to the dealers where I bought it, there was nothing wrong with it on paper, no accidents, everything worked etc. but it was just a Friday afternoon car, rattles, wouldn't start occasionally, dash lights intermittently etc. etc...

Depends on what car your on about, Some high performance and track day cars do little miles but change hands often, kids do get bored easily these days.
