i managed to lock my only key inside the boot of my fabia vrs this morning and had to smash the rear quarter window of the passenger door to retrieve it :( i have sent a few messages to people on ebay to see if i can source a second hand window. just wondering if anybody else has managed to do this before and roughly how much should i expect to pay for a window to be fitted. also if anybody has had to buy a window from a skoda dealers before how much was it? will also definately be attempting to get a spare key organised for the car asap. thanks in advance, sarah (mrs gaz_vrs).

I think that if you have fully comp insurance it'll cover a broken window without affecting your no claims - all it will cost you is your glass excess

i know windscreens are normally covered, not sure about side windows.. .might be worth checking the policy documents if you're fully comp

how did the boot lock with the key in it?

If you open the boot with the boot button on the fob when the cars locked, then when you close the boot lid the boot locks itself

almost done it myself! have to remember keys in pocket, not the boot

the locking system has always been a bit dodgy on my fabia....we've had the keys locked inside the car in the ignition before which wasnt nice with no spare key! will contact my insurers and see what they say, thanks guys :)

unfortunately only my windscreen is covered :( will just have persevere and get hold of a window from somewhere. i do have cover for lost keys though so my key may accidentaly go walkies at some point (thats if i dont manage to lock it inside the car again, lol)

That rear quarterlight is a kind of "push fit" and just pushes into its sitting position when the main door glass is out. With that in mind, it might be easy to get one via a breakers yard. :)

hopefully gareth will be able to fit it, just got to hope one of the breakers on ebay can supply me with a glass. none of the breakers yeards around here have any fabias.

:D Hope so. The rear window gap looks quite funny with the main glass and the push-fit quarterlight removed. :D

wow, the hole looks huge!! will we have to take the up & down window bit out to fit the little one? be ready to receive ''help me quick'' pm's :giggle:

Fairly sure you will. Remove doorcard, remove inner panel, unclip glass from winder mechanism (little plastic push-fit rod goes through hole in bottom of window glass) - once the glass is out the way you kind of push the quarterlight toward the B pillar by placing hands on opposite sides of the glass and queezing together whhilst pushing out. Kind of comes out in a complete unit with the rubbers around it.

okie dokie, thanks for the help, will attempt it when i've got a glass. i thought that would be the case though. the rubber seal is still in place along with a little bit of glass, it didnt quite come out in one piece with the help of a brick unfortunately! i have hoovered all the glass up and done an emergency repair job with a plastic bag and some parcel tape for now :(

Sorry to hear you had to take extreme measures to get the key back.

I've only got one official key too, but got a duplicate blade cut at a high street key cutters incase I did exactly what you did ya self. Was only like £6, won't start the car or disable the alarm but it'll get you into the car!.. well worth doing if ya can't stretch to a the price of a full Skoda key.

Key coding info. It's easy if you have the SKC, but it's amazing how few people seem to have the SKC labels.

I think the vRS glass is lightly tinted green. Get a plain white piece of paper, wind down one of your windows a bit and put the paper behind it - it will show up what colour tint you have.

When you get the spare key, pop it in little box and tape to somewhere under the car or drill a couple of holes and fasten on the top of the engine pan at the back with a tie. Once you've done this, the chances of locking the key in the car go from 99% to nil. Magic. :giggle:

 knowing my luck I'd still manage to lose it!!
