car accelerates

Featured Replies

hi guys i need some advice with my problem please

yesterday i placed new tires on my roomster scout, my older ones were 205.45.16R that came with my car, this time i decided to get bigger tires 205.55.16R

as the older tires were to slim i was to scared not breaking the rims,so as i put the new ones i only fitted the front pair because the dealer didnt have 2 pairs at the moment and i have to wait until tomorrow,

so when i got on my way home the car started to run from its self as i got 40kmh and above it was going like it had the tempo mat turned on constantly as i go higher kmh for example 60kmh or 70kmh and i relive the gas pedal the car would still go with 60kmh and would not slow down until i press the brake for a sec. or press the clutch... :D

and the tempomat is off all the time even if i turn it on it doesnt react nothing happens,

so my question is, is it because there is a huge difference because until tomorrow i have to drive the car with front tires 205.55.16R and at the back 205.45.16R and the sensors are confused or something or maybe the maximum diameter of the tires for this car is 205.45.16R? or is my computer mest up ? (more than one question) :p

thank you

Did you have the cruise control on? :smirk:

ABS sensors all screwed up due to different tyre profiles.

will it go back to normal when i will put the back tires the same hight like the front?

Your new tyres are not wider than your old ones.

Yes it should be fine. Might have logged a fault code though, which may need to be cleared.

Code?! Do i have to visit the dealer service?

Not necessarily; check the VAGCOM forum to see if there's someone near you who can clear fault codes. Don't do it until after you've got 4 tyres the same though.

Also take note; your new tyres have the same tread width as the old ones, but a 10% taller (about 20mm) sidewall, which I think will increase your overall gear ratio by about 8%, and may well make your speedometer read illegally.
