Locking Wheel Nuts

Featured Replies

I enquired in Halfords today about locking wheel nuts for my yeti. The salesman checked their computer system for the appropriate type for a yeti and got no matches.

Has anyone fitted locking wheel nuts?

Has anyone fitted the 'safety bolt set' [CFA 071 004] from the Yeti accessories brochure? Safety Bolt Set on Pg 23

Hi there aaaa.

I believe the locking wheel nuts come as standard...which model are you or have you purchased??

Thanks,

I live in Ireland and locking wheel nuts are not standard equipment on any version. I didn't realise they were standard equipment in the UK. I'll probably get the safety bolt set that are in the accessories brochure.

They didn't come as standard on my car, Elegance trim. I thought they had as there's a locking wheel nut socket in the boot but checking the wheel nuts revealed them all to be normal. If they do come as standard equipment I'll have to get onto the dealer. If not I'll go to a dealership and buy a set.

Get a plastic covers for the locking nuts as well, the cheapskates, next skoda will say wheels are an optional extra!

GRRR... I had this on my list as something to get from the dealer on delivery but then took it off as someone on here also mentioned they are standard on UK cars.

Can someone please check and confirm this? Thanks! emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Lee,

I'm surprised Penistone got through the profanity checker. I'm in the Dearne Valley. I've not seen another Yeti round here, but of course now I've got mine they'll suddenly become common as muck.

lol...dearne valley hey, im from wath ..but moved to the posh half of south yorks :giggle:

Locking wheel nuts are a royal pain - you know where.

For once, the plastic dohickies that cover the ROUND locking nuts are different from the ones that cover the hexagonal normal nuts.- And it is hard to tell them apart from the outside. So after a wheel change they get put on wrong, and one falls off each wheel, telling everybody which is the locking one.

Without them, a prospective wheel thief has to take all the dohickies off the nuts to see if there is a locking one, coz he cannot tell otherwise. Getting the dohickies off without the little plastic tool is more frustrating than defeating gthe locking nut, which I am sure all in the biznezz know how to do.

Then, when YOU need to change a wheel, do you know where the plastic dohickie is??

The locking nuts were standard on both the Octy and Yeti with alloy wheels. I convnced the dealer to replace them with standard nuts and plastic caps for nowt, and use the locking nuts as he saw fit.

Unless you park in a very high risk area at n ight, the locking nuts protect something that doesn't need it.

They already do for the fifth (spare) wheel!

The solution is easy, replace the locking wheel nut cap either first or last, if you look at the cover from the inside it is easy to tell them apart, this way they can't get mixed up

If you mean the plastic tool to remove the cap? then yes its in the tool kit (that sits in the spare wheel) right next to the locking wheel nut adapter.

Actual wheel theft is now very uncommon. They are more likely to target the externally mounted spares, which won't bother Yeti owners.

You are of course right on both counts - And I knew both facts as well. Also identical for the Octy as well as the Yeti.

Now, You obviously keep a tidy boot and don't loose things, and probably also do your own wheel change.

Take the car to the local Yokel to have them changed, and unless you point these out, it is not obvious that the plastic caps are diffeent and the the plastic extractor tool needs to go back to exactly where it came from. DAMIHIKT.

Very true, but then if you want a job done properly - do it yourself emoticon-0148-yes.gif

If any yokel was to work on the wheels I'll just have to learn to take the plastic tops off myself before hand. Not difficult. But a good tip thanks Agerbundsen.

I had to buy a new plastic extractor tool , broke with usage< take wheels off every month to clean properly and suspension etc> but it is under a pound for a new one

Did you purchase this through your dealer? I've got a flat, and there is no extractor tool in my kit, and if I try and remove them myself I'll end up mangling them. Cheers.

Did you look carefully for it? It is stuck vertically in a small square hole in the plastic, which is nearly the same colour as the tool.

I got one of those as standard with our Yeti and locking wheel nuts. Thanks for telling me what it's for - I had absolutely no idea!

thanks so much for this - really helpful! I registered on the forums months ago when I bought my Octavia, but hadn't posted, so thanks very much! I'll look again and see if it really is there.
