Problem: Door handle rubs door

Featured Replies

Update from the Finnish forum:

There is now a service instruction out to fix the door handle rubbing problem. In Finland the importer has supplied a work instruction on how to fix this and a few of the members have already had this fixed on their cars. For some reason this problem does not affect right hand drive cars, just the left hand drives :o

So all you non-UK followers of this forum, contact your dealer and demand this to be fixed as it is an official problem with a known fix to it!

Had a trip to the dealer with my Octavia today to disable the automatic function of the rear window wiper.

While looking at one of their Yetis I could clearly see how the doorhandles will rub the edge of the recessed portion where doorhandle rests.

Also had a look at one of their test vehicles together with one of their salesmen. On the drivers door we could clearly see the rubbing in the paint.

Then back to have a look at Octavias and Fabias, there seems to be a difference in the geometry of the way the handles swings out.

On Octavia and Fabia the handles swings clear of the door in both ends, -larger swing radius?

On Yeti the handles swings out with a seemingly smaller swing radius, and therefore swings clear at the latch end while the opposite end just swings/rubs very close to the edge of the recess.

I am happy to see there is a fix ongoing i Finland. Will follow up the Norwegian branch, and hopefully we will have a fix here soon.

Update. In Finland there is now an "official" fix for the problem from the importer. I had mine fixed this week, and now the door handles are a bit further away from the door so no rubbing will appear. The doors also look clean and "unscratched" after the procedure so I guess I was lucky to get the fix done while only the wax cover had been damaged and not the paintwork itself.

So if you have this problem: push your dealers to get it fixed. It's a known and recognized problem, and there is an official fix out there from Skoda.
