Featured Replies

I take it this is not possible?

It would save a significent amount of del time= waiting for us

Plus we havney been on holiday this wheen o years, and I always wanted to visit Prague, i am in the right country, yes?

I do see there are factory tours available Ex Prague.

sigh

Perhaps I Should have ordered a Merc ( but we got three of them already)

sigh

I wanted to go on the factory tour, but its shut when i'm over that way in a couple of week

EDIT: A BMW would be a better thing to collect, Merc? Pah! :giggle:

Doubt if it's possible. Skoda, like many other cars nowadays are shipped 'ex factory'. Many new cars are set up to run for a certain distance - about 10 miles, to allow them to be moved about for a limited distance only. Apart from basic functions working for that distance, the car needs to be put thru a PDI and plugged into the dealer computer to make everything work.

Dealers find this can be a pain if they want to do a stock exchange with another dealer, because in nearly every case they need to do a PDI, because if they don't. it will conk out when it reaches the programmed distance. I suppose on balance it's a good idea - reduces theft and also stops your brand new car having been thrashed down the motorway on trade plates.

I did hear that it's possible to collect Mercs though direct from the factory. Perhaps someone else knows.

The legal paperwork would be a nightmare - import paperwork/registration etc etc.

Porsche manage it

Porsche manage it

At the prices they charge, I'd expect that and more.

VW also has this option. You get train ticket, an overnight stay in an Hotel nearby, a tour of the factory and offcourse your car.

You still have to pay for it. But it is a nice touch to get your car. You can then drive your new car from germany home.

volvo also does this. You have to ask though.

Yes I was aware that VW also offered this service.

I was simply trying to sound a bit more classy :giggle: with the Merc Reference.

Mind you is it VW wot got the big round tower with automatic unmanned car retrevial?

Now that is CLASSY

so since Skoda is part of VW.....bah humbug

So who said Skoda UK were useless???

I just got a phone call from a pleasent young man from Skoda UK apologising that it would not be possible to collect Ex factory if ordered through a UK retailer, PDi blah blah etc etc.......he did seem surprised when I mentioned that VW magaged to offer this service.

Ph call in response to an email sent last Friday......pretty good service I thought

cheers

Would the fact that Mercedes, VW and Porsche manage this be due to the fact that Germany is in the EU and the Czech Republic isn't?

Surely the paperwork would be a lot easier for movement between EU countries?

Hmm. according to the official EU website the Czech Republic has been a member since 2004!

I stand corrected... Are there differing levels of Eurozone? Someof which allow for easier movement of goods etc?

As you can tell, i know sweet FA about this emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Haha you had me totally questioning myself Raglits, i like it

Working in Paisley, and will be back again next week. Not brave enough to stay in Paisley so am staying in a Glasgow hotel instead emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Can't say i blame you! I lived in Paisley (despite everyone warning me to avoid it) for 6 months and 1 day (legal minimum on my rent/lease agreement). Never again :giggle:

If you're at a loose end up this way, give me a shout and i'll catch you up for a few jars in the city centre or the west end and some bad england world cup jokes to make ya feel right at home :giggle: (only kiddin)

I'm fairly new to the board so i'm not sure who else is lurking about these parts, i know a_waugh's near by, SCOTIA's near by, rossm's on the southside of Glasgow.

Back onto the thread though, I'm guessing Skoda doesn't (yet) have the facilities for this and I reckon VAG probably don't want their "budget brand" stealing more thunder from them as I couldn't find any reason why this couldn't be offered from the Czech Republic and I now know more about trade in the EU then I ever wanted to.

Damn I get bored in hotel rooms at times

We visited VW's Autostadt in Wolfsburg last year and were told on the tour around the factory that any vehicle in the VAG range including Lambos etc could be collected from their very swish collection point any day of the year! Tour around the factory was amazing as were the two glass towered and computerised storage areas. We were rather disappointed with rst of the complex.
