What can cause today's random High Idle speed

Featured Replies

Got in the car today after work, (pd100 TDI 2002 fabia)

noticed after a mile or so that it was idling at 1000rpm rather than the normal 800+ rpm.

Dipped the clutch, revved it a few times, even took drove it to 4000rpm a few times (probably not a great idea if there is something potentially wrong with the car!) but it still idled bang on 1000rpm.

MPG all the same, power all the same, Aircon on as per usual.

Stopped the engine briefly, restarted, but still the same.

Got home after 26miles, shut the car off, lifted up the bonnet, disconnected the MAF, wiggled the connecter back into place, restarted and everything back to normal again.

Bizarre.

It's never done that before!

Any ideas?

You sort of answered your own question tbh

u mean faulty maf?

or one off error?

Must be something wrong with the MAF. Whether it's a loose connection, or a completely duff unit.

Just a matter of time, if it doesn't do it again, happy days. If it does, look at replacing it

cheers. hopefully a one off.

Any idea how much a genuine VW (or skoda) one retails at?

God knows lol, probably over 100 sheets, at least

Cheers,

Is the Eurocarparts one TRUE OEM?

I know sometimes they say it's OEM stuff, but often it's NOT, and merely some cheap knock off

If it happens again, try pulling the throttle pedal back with your toe under the pedal. Faulty throttle modules are really common.

+1 for checking the throttle pedal, i had mine changed under warranty because of this

What does a faulty throttle pedal do? does it get stuck so it doesn't come back up fully?

I actually tried lifting the throttle up whilst I was driving along noticing the idle was high, but there was no sign on the throttle pedal getting stuck partially, when it was up, it was fully up.

Pedal doesn't stick, the potentiometer for the fly by wire throttle goes noisy.
