£10 insurance when car in dealer for warranty work

Featured Replies

my car goes in to the dealer on Tuesday for some warranty work, since i want a loan car they're going to charge me £10 to use there insurance.

Since the warranty work is not my fault shouldn't Skoda pay for the insurance ??

I went to a VW dealer for my last service and i was given a new Polo free of charge.

it's not the money but the principle, perhaps i should charge skoda for my time taking the car in and getting it back again !!

Have you tried speaking to your insurer?

When my car is in for a service I give the details of the courtesy car to them and it's covered by my policy with Zurich.

why should i go to the trouble of contacting my insurance company when the car is under warranty.if it was out of warranty i would.this issue is about skoda and dealer not taking care of a customer.

One good reason for covering a courtesy car with your own insurance if possible is that you will have the excess that applies to your own insurance policy. In the past I have been offered a courtesy car but it had a £500 excess.

My dealer offers a pick up service. Is this any good to you?

not really no.

i'm thinking about contacting Skoda and getting the rules changed.

They could give the car at no charge, but then the insurance carries something like a £1k excess. Paying the £10 waives that. Or cover it on your own policy, I did that a few times.

They wouldn't charge it if they didn't feel they had to.

I'd be surprised if you didn't have a large excess even after paying £10. I've never been asked to pay for a courtesy car.

to be honest i don't think there is any entitlement to a courtesy car at all so if you want it, its at their terms!

This is correct, the dealer is under no obligation to provide you with a car. Each dealer has its own T&C's, some charge and some don't. The dealers are all franchises, and each have their own operating conditions.

most of these courtesy cars have more than a £1000 excess, i know of one garage locally that courtesy cars have a £1500 excess, or you can pay them £10 to waive this excess before you take the car, i know which i'd prefer.
