Mini One

Featured Replies

Hi guys n gals

My mate's mum has got a new Mini one, it's had some weird noises from the gearbox, at first it was thought to be just one of those new car noises before things have bedded in. Well as it turns out it wasn't that, infact it was low oil in the gearbox, it turns out that it was not filled up correctly during it's PDI it was only half full.

Now my question is, would this have done any damaged to the gearbox? It's only covered 260 miles but that's all around town with plenty of changes. It's only 3 weeks old so it's still in the rejection period. Should she rejected it or just let it pass?

Ta Mike

Personally I'd reject it on the basis the PDi was not carried correctly and what else have they 'fogotten'.

that's my feeling on it to, but my mates mum feels abit sorry for them, parents ay!! lol cheers andy

I don't think it would have done any serious damage with only covering 260 miles.

Personally, I would reject cos it would play on my mind.

At first, I thought you were going to mention another type of noise. The wife has a Mini One, & it makes some strange whining noises @ slow speeds. I've listened to a few other Mini's & they do it too.

The dealer told me it's the power steering pump & it's very common.

yeah like andy, if it was mine it would play on my mind no end. This was more a movement noice of hearing the gears being selected, drove it myself and the gear change seemed fine.

Its not worth taking the chance. I would reject the car now, Who knows what will go wrong later, then its too late. Never feel sorry for a car dealer, they will shaft you given half the chance! ( trust me. my brother's one and he's shafted my parent's)

Being realistic about this, it has done 260 miles, it had enough oil to ensure the box was not starved, and if it is quiet now, probably will be fine.

However, Mini's are not known for reliability in the first place, so it would be better to reject it, and get a Fabia.

just suggested that to my mate he was none to pleased with the idea of a fabia, he is a badge snob, he drives a lexus so even if the skoda was a better car it wont get a look in coz of it's badge.

I did rub in the fact that I paid

already been there with that one andy! It doesn't matter what is said he just cant seen past the badge.

When someone in a car park send to him, "that's a toyota you have, it's a nice car" he got a little upset and had a big go at the poor guy lol

No hope for him then :D

So if you presented this chap with a freshly cooked Dogturd on a fine bone china plate he would think it was prepared by a Cordon Bleu chef huh?

Sad, But true lol

You may well be right there :D

Have to say as much as I like my mate his taste in cars in lacking somewhat, he loves american cars and thought the new mustang was just great.

Badge snobbery is just stupidity now adays. Skoda now build modern designs, they use VW/Audi engines, they offer reasonable value etc, so whats to look down at them for? Because the country they were built in was unlucky enough to be occupied by the USSR at the end of WW2, meaning Skoda cars were for years designed for the communist market? That is daft, that is history now.

I could not agree more William!!

As it happens he is getting a full report on the car and a full PDi check list, he is then going to get it checked over by a mate who works in motor trade

Hi

A mate of mine had a Mini 1, had it serviced by his BMW dealer when it needed it etc

His gear box gave up the ghost at 32,000k.

Turns out the gear box and engine is not BMW its a Chrysler, out of the Chrysler Neon,

Tell that to your mate with the Lexus.

Cheers

Will.....

Willy,

I will let him know that. He has been asured that the gearbox noise will not effect it in anyway, nor the fact that the oil being low would have caused any damaged. He has also been told that a BMW tech from head office will come out and show that the noise in question is on all BMW MINI's.

He is not a work at the moment so I dont know any more than that, personal I would have handed it back and got a skoda fabia vrs...............cost less than his mini one did :P

Lexus?? The 'Japanese Mercedes' as Alan Partridge would tell you!!!! LOL
