All you Scouters..? Q's

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have a 57 Diesel Scout, (I should have entered it on the roll call list by now but haven't got round to cleaning it good enough

to take some pics )

I've had it for nearly 2 years now and love it.

But

I need to ask you fellow Scout owners some Questions:-

--Have you experienced a sort of 'clutch slip' moment ocaisionally?

Always seems to be when accelerating away from junctions, a momentary 'dead spot' then the car recovers. Ocurrs when accelerating

gently or firmly but not all the time.

--How is your gear change?

Mine seems to be getting more 'imprecise' each month. The gearbox oil was changed to the lighter variety at Christmas but it seems to 'baulk'

when moving between 2nd 3rd and 4th.

Would really appreciate all your feedback.

I have a Scout from Jan 2008, 31.000 miles and never experienced the problems that you mentioned.

Nor me. 2007 58,000 miles, slick gear change & no clutch judder.

I get something that feels a bit like transmission wind up. Happens when I change down to second for a tight turn, then accelerate gently through. Like a bit of an involuntary surge. I think it's probably the stupid springy flywheel they insist on fitting.

The DMF also gives you next to no feel at the pedal so gearchange smoothness is a bit of a lottery...

'57 Diesel Scout, 24k on the clock, only probs I get is when the dpf is burning off, then it feels a bit low on power... Are you still under warranty ?

We've got an 08 Scout and I've noticed this sort of thing. Happens when accelerating sometimes you get a dead point where it feels like the engine has cut out very briefly, then kicks back in again. I don't drive the car that often (its my wife's!) so don't know how often it happens, but it is a bit concerning. I'd be interested to hear what your garage says if you do book it in as we'll be coming up to warranty time this time next year.

 I have a flat spot on the Scout most noticable in first gear when setting off, if I am on a light thottle its like something cuts in and stops the car going, and if I try to set off quickly I have to ride the clutch to obtain the power, must get around to booking it in the dealers for them to sort it out. cheers - Stuart

A re-map will cure this.

A re-map will cure this.

Do you mean a dealer re-map or a 3rd party one?

Had mine from new June 2007 - now around 70,000 miles & still on original clutch.

I've got a really nasty habit - I am a real culprit for this & am unaware that I rest my left foot lightly on the clutch when driving about town, just sometimes I do push that little bit more & notice the slip. Are you sure your left foot is completely off the clutch pedal? (just thought I would ask).

The gearbox has loosened but not that much - quite impressed how tight the gator feels after 70k.

Due to chop it in soon, really considering another one, especially now they have put the CR lump in.

hello, i have a 57 reg diesel scout and often experience the problem you describe, also mine feels quite lumpy on tick over sometimes. oh by the way, had a new clutch at 30,000 miles :'( . just over 60,000 now so could be on borrowed time.

lol--I have a few habits but no i have my other foot well clear. The strange thing is that it isn't all the time --only now and again----you start to think that you might have imagined it --then it happens again.

The gear change is the same--same trip every day but different change quality every day!

The only thing i am wondering though is whether I get a 'baulky' change as i go up/down hill or on bends, as if something may be flexing? i need input from you clutch experts on that one

cheers

Clutch judder is a common problem, plenty of threads on here about it...

I notice it on my August 2008 Scout usually on cold / damp mornings especially under load - up hill starts etc.

It would seem that is has no adverse affect on the life of the clutch as some have experienced it for many years / miles.

Only done 18,000 miles but the gear changes are just fine, I get the occasional baulk from 1st to 2nd but nothing I'm worried about!

I have a query about the Scout, it's not a technical query though. I don't know who or where to ask.

I have just had my new Scout delivered. 1.8 TSI petrol, leather interior.

Now, the car is fine and runs very nicely but there are a couple of things that I'm not pleased about.

1) The leather trim is fine in most of the car but there is one place where the leather is slightly scratched and another place where there is discolouration. It looks loose or something.

2) The inside of the windows, back and rear, have glue marks (I think it's glue) at the bottom of the windows. They are either dirty or glue has been left there. All of the windows have the same problem.

Is this standard Skoda fare? Shall I complain to the dealer? Help, please.

I get this on mine too - there's a spot on my way home where I tend to overtake and it's happened a few times. My explanation of it is: if you've ever tried it the car will only rev to 3k when the clutch is depressed, so if you're accelerating hard then hit the clutch to change up power will be cut to the engine to drop the revs to 3k, and by the time you get the gear changed and back on the power it's dropped by more than you expected which leads to this momentary lack in power. I'm assuming it's because the turbo has wound down and needs a fraction of a second to wind back up again.

On that note, I had quite often very lumpy throttle response - turbo changed under warranty at 30k seems to have solved it.

Ruaridh.
