More Problems Octavia TDi

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I posted on here the other day about how my car was under-performing and got a lot of good advice I am having the diagnostics done on Monday.

However I have now noticed a weird sound that I can only describe as a scraping noise that happens randomly when driving. At first I thought it happened when going over a bump but now it seems like it just random. Any ideas?

I really want to love this car however I am getting the feeling I have been had by the previous seller!

Thanks in advance,

Drew.

Hi Drew,

really need more info to be able to advise really.

where is the sound coming from? Front/Rear? Engine compantment ? etc

if the scraping noise appears from behind the glove box than that could be the re-circ flap, or maybe some leaves have got past airfilter and are catching on the fan blades.

Or if under the engine, then maybe a bit of the plastic undertray is catching on the ground....

But really we need some more details rather than just guessing...

I have found the problem the noise was getting worse and worse then I realised thanks to you that the undertray was hanging off!!! Had a lot of cable ties in it that were now broken, have since cable-tied it back up - sound gone.

Thanks for the help!!

Yay, I am getting good at this :giggle:

I would suggest seeing if you can find something better than tie-wraps, as I am sure other people have used them and find they don't last that long.... The tray should be sort of clipped in at the front, and screwed around the sides into two other pieces of plastic tray and then screwed at the back end into some metal work

Undertray clips and screws may be bought at your dealer . They are not expensive.
