Any ideas on my findings?

Featured Replies

After driving at a constant speed (motorway for example) and slowing down for an exit slip, when I depress the clutch it seems to be a little stiffer than normal. This only happens on the first gear change then the feel of the clutch is back to normal.

I've not noticed and leaking fluid etc. Any ideas???

I noticed this on my Bora TDi, it was like that for most of the 4 years I had it. I replaced and bled the brake/clutch fluid in that time as well and it made no difference. I never had any problems with the clutch on that car for the time that I owned it. I woudnt worry about it too much. Not sure why it does this though? Hopefully someone will have an idea :)

When I picked my car up from the 60k service the clutch was mega stiff for about 5 miles rhen went back to normal, don't know if this can offer any insight in to the problem.

This happens on mine, but only started recently.

Mine is the OEM Clutch which has done 58k now. My Clutch is slipping a little, but only flat out after 4th gear >

Car is not mapped and on the original clutch. Only got 42k miles on it.

Release bearing?

Release bearing?? I've no idea, I was hoping you or someone maybe able to help me!!

Sounds like either the brake fluid needs changed ( the clutch uses the brake fluid as well ) or clutch master cylinder is sticking slightly. Or clutch pedal shaft needs greased at the pivot point on the pedal box. Also check for cracks in the pedal box around the spot welds. The clutch pedal can collapse if the pedal box fails.

faulty Release Bearing or Master Cylinder can cause all kinds of strange clutch symptoms with the latter causing issues with pedal feel or even total failure of the clutch pedal.

Probably no fault at all - my last car, would be stiff as hell after doig motorway driving and not changing gear for say 70+ miles. It does it in a few mates cars too, so nothing to worry about really.

Same in mine - I always thought it was just because I had got used to not depressing it after driving for a long distance with the cruise on. Doubt it's anything to worry about.
