left foot braking in a vRS?

Featured Replies

Does anyone do this or in fact in any other front wheel drive car? I'm dubious about the advantages of it in normal road use and remember reading in modern cars it was impossible to touch the brake and hold the accelerator down at the same time?

i've not tried this so can't say. Bit scared it may do some damage or wear out the pads quicker. A friend of mine tried it and said he got a lot of judder and thinks it was due to the way the brakes operate prevents it?

Yeah - no go in fabia/octy platform, or basically any car with drive by wire throttle pedal.... :(

I did hear rumours of being able to turn it off though, :D

Yer can't be done as the power is cut when the brake is pressed. So would then have to put your foot back on the accelerator.

Ben can do it.

This is is one thing that really does my head in about the car. Please can you tell me what it costs to sort it out.

Yep we can enable left foot braking no problem.

Hi Ben

How much is this and does it affect or change anything with the ABS or ASR system?

We can do it as part of a normal remap (and via an STS), and as a trial we are offering this at £50 extra to gauge interest.

I've answered the cost above, and there is no change to the ABS or ASR system at all

Like previously said it can be removed in the ecu.

Left foot braking does really help in slippery conditions..

Thank you for the reply. My car is mapped already does this affect anything.

Test it out :) Drive along at a steady speed (say 10-20mph), keep your foot on the accelerator then very lightly apply the brake. If its not been mapped out, you'll know it. The power will die almost completely about 1 secs after applying the brake, then will come back about 1 sec after releasing the brake.

We don't usually just do the LFB mod, we usually do the whole map. If you'd like us to look at it then we'd be happy to.

My BMW with drive by wire certainly doesn't cut the throttle when left foot braking, seems to be mainly VAG cars that don't allow it.

To be honest though, I can't see why anyone would pay £50 to be able to left foot brake in a road car. The only time I find it useful is after I've washed the car and I'm trying to dry the brakes so they don't sieze on!
