new vrs owner first essential mods?

Featured Replies

hi everyone, i'm picking up my 2005 octavia vrs mk1 this friday . its completely standard at the moment but i wont be chaving it up. i've searched on here for recommend mods and there is so many different threads i dont know where to start lol. any pointers would be great. its gonna be an every day family car but it will get pushed once in a while. i dont want a loud exhaust or a too noisey induction set up. i'll be doing the inner wheel arch mod on sat at work with my dremel and drill etc. any other recommended do it ya self mods i should do like n249 removal?

cheers pete/ clarky

"de tango" the headlight by getting some chrome indicator bulbs, get yourself some white led sidelights them 2 mods alone will cost you less than a tenner! and will look great!

oh and get yourself a LCR Splitter £28.99 from a Seat dealer doesn't take too long to do. The most important mod of all though is this it may bit abit expensive but make sure you get 1 it the www.briskoda.net car sticker will set u back around £3 including P&P

I'm in the motor trade so I maybe able to get the splitter at trade price. As for stickers I dunno they seem a little pricey. Lol.

Here welcome to the site and well done for picking up a great car..

Chaving it up a dremel on wheel arch hmmm :giggle:

Wheel arch mod not really that required on a standard motor to be honest unless you intend to extract more power out of it.

N249 removal also not really needed unless you know it is faulty.

I would start with the bolt on mods before you do those things.

a replacement panel air filter as these are not noisy is a good mod.

Rear anti roll bar is another great addition for the car.

Like mark said, the arch mod is not worth it also let's more crap in behind the cooler. first mod really for me is a rea anti roll bar. £150ish for a whiteline 22 / 24 mm one or £250ish for the daddy 28 mm neuspeed bar. That will transform the handling but not change the ride comfort. The LCR splitter is a really nice one too so long as its done right.

The splitter is a must and I'll do that soon but I'm more interested in basic performance mods. I'm pretty handy with a dremel if not then I noticed a few people use the vent section out of the tt arch liner. What's the best panel filter to use? I'll be getting it remapped in next month or two.Cheers.

K & N Id say, but they are more money, the PiperX is the cheapest, TBH tho I used to have the CAI pipe with the PiperX filter on it and altho the sound was great and the car had been mapped with it on I used more fuel with it on and never felt that torquy. Ive since gone back to the std box and pannel and it feels fine. Just keep a fresh std one.

unless you get more air into the box then there is no need in my eyes for a better filter, if the 225 TT uses the same filter just with a bigger inlet then I think our little 180s will be more than fine. plus they only cost a few ££ so for the price of the PX £35 you can get, what? 9 std filters?

the RARB is a must then. youll notice instantly, even in slower corners

Hi mate

Forget the pikey wheel arch mod...... it will not reduce AIT's :giggle:

The first basic engine perfomance mod you can do is run the car on 99 ron fuel.

Then give the car (not just the engine) a service, use a good quality SHC engine oil, Denso or NGK plugs and OEM filters.

Remember to let your insurance company know when you get the remap

Would it be worth knocking the guts out of the cat? Also what head units work with the multi changer as its got a cassette player up front.

Edited by Clarkyzs

AFAIK there are no aftermarket head units that work with the OEM changer, you would need an adaptor cable.

Get an aftermarket head unit that plays mp3 DVDs or connects to an ipod and sell the changer

The mod that makes the most difference is a rear ARB, the handling is improved loads.

Wouldn't bother getting a remap until you have done everything else first i.e. brakes, suspension, exhaust, front mount intercooler. Even with just better brakes and suspension you will realise it is a very quick car on the standard map

I agreed with vrs180 you're better off treating the car to decent oil and fuel rather than spunking loads of money on mods

I'm sure which ever one you choose your car will go like $hit off a stick afterwards

Is the PDT one a revo generic map for £399 ???? (can't open the eclipse link)

If it is then I'd spend a little bit more and get a custom remap.....but only after you have done any other engine mods first.

Ahhh well..... the PDT one sounds very tempting

But if that girl on the eclipse site does the remapping then I'd defo pay the extra and have it done by them :p

what would people recommend to clean throttle body with? brake cleaner?

Carb cleaner

Bill

Carb Cleaner, but don't disconnect the electric plug when you take it off or you will have to do a throttle body alignment with VAGCOM. new gasket is good to have to hand just incase the old one falls to bits.

Well I pick it up just fine. Lovely car but not quite as chuckable round corners as my old MGZS but a lot quicker in a straight line. Should u always hear a little turbo whistle as it spools up? Also is it worth getting a cai set up or are the too noisey? Cheers

Edited by Clarkyzs

Don't worry about a CAI just stick with the standard airbox. you can always put a better filter in it.

Fit a rear ARB and coilovers and it will be very chuckable round corners ;)

I got a custom map by PDTuning at a special price of £299 :) 3 weeks ago 209hp and 262ft/lbs torque. Think the VR6 G60 clutch conversion coming soon tho torque is unreal.

I have a CAI and yes that turbo spool you hear becomes louder sounds like a jet engine plus the DV noise gets louder too happy days
