Bolero - my SD card works perfectly!

Featured Replies

Unfortunately my timing device only goes up to December 2010. Has anyone got a timing device for 2011 so I can get an accurate reading?

I presume you mean that the hyper expensive card is a no-go?

Right o, I've got a 4GB class 2 here at home so when I take delivery of the car on Wednesday I'll try that first before ordering a 16GB.......

I'm interested in your findings.

I pick my 09 elegance up on Friday.

I've only got an old 2gb sd card knocking about so I've put some albums on that.

I couldn't fit all the albums that I wanted to on it, but I probably could on a 4gb card.

If we're only talking a few seconds for a full 4gb card at a cost of a fiver I'll be happy with that.

ok after trying a few cheap ebay specials, anything from 4gb to 16gb ive figured that you get what you pay for, my bolero doesn't like cheap cards and takes a lifetime to process even say 4-8 albums, bought a class 4 kingston card the other day, filled it to the brim with albums, dropped it in and hey presto, came straight on within a few seconds.

so buy branded cards is my advise.

It takes about 7 minutes to load, and moving betwixt albums takes an age too :-(

Have you tried danishvikings playlist program yet?

Thats a question i was about to ask,, Has everyone given up on this? I would like to hear how it works with MY11 models,

I ordered a cheapo sdhc 16g Class6 card from ebay and am anxious to try it. If it is not up to scratch then I will use it in my camera.

Not yet; I was a tad busy thrashing round Castle Coombe today.

Haven't needed to use it - 8Gb Sandisk works perfectly in my MY11 - no delay at all. And I have mp3's in the root directory, and in subfolders under artist then album. By default it will play all the tracks in the root directory then go into the first alphabetical folder and play the tracks there  .

I've just tried the CD player on my Octy for the first time and it won't load disks :S

Perhaps I'll get a new one that works properly under warranty! :D

It's fine, darn it! Meatware problem...

Picked up an 8GB Class 6 SD today.. takes less than a minute to do the initial read (which is fine as that's roughly what it takes to get off my drive). So by the time I'm motoring down the road, I have music playing..

Anything more and I think it'll take too long to do the inital read.

There must have been a firmware update then as I get the music playing immediately on turning on the Bolero (I leave the SD card in the slot)

Ditto, no delay at all from the moment I slot in the card or when I return to the car, by the time the Skoda scrreen has gone which is a couple of seconds my music carries on playing.

just rechecked my sdcard on my 09 bolero after it's first service, works ok with playlists, but not as fast as the my11 people claim :-(

using a class 6 16gb card

Finally got round to buying an AUX cable to run an MP3 player though the Bolero. After listening to a few tracks, wish I hadn't bothered really. Sound quality is just not upto scratch - ok for earphone output perhaps, but rubbish for amplifying through the Bolero.

I'm still impressed with SD card playback though - 320Kbs of pure sound quality, track info displayed, immediate start. Used ome old 1Gb cards today, each loaded with separate albums and tracks - all worked perfectly again with no lag.

A lot of my early MP3's are ripped @ 86kbs and still sounds very good on the Bolero, so much better than having a multi-changer or an MP3 CD in the head unit like on my old MK2.

I'm loving this SD slot on the Bolero, I've redone a lot of my collection to 320kbps compression for a better sounds. For a standard head and speakers the Bolero is doing MUSE proud imo....... up to 18GB on my 32GB card, just need some more long journeys now to listen to it all.

Does the secret menu need unlocking via VAG COM like the Columbus?

yes , and keep pressing SETUP after FM / AM info menu appears and after few second service menu will be shown , but this menu is more informative than functional (you can change only few things , the rest is info )

Is there any difference in ease of use or setup of music folder/files between a SD card in the Bolero or using a USB stick connected to the MDI connection ?

Thanks

Were there any firmware updates to Bolero this year? If so, is there a page somewhere where one can download updates?

I agree. Starts straight away and only takes about 5 secs to upload once a new card is inserted. 7.5Gb music in folders done by artists on 8Gb card in my case.

Two things i've noticed:

-It will play tracks alphabetically if not preceded by track numbers so out of normal CD/album order as on the card.

-This one seems weird, If you insert the SD card into the radio without the keys in the car at all, it starts playing? Don't know how long for but mine does. I had to put the key in turn one stop and then off to stop it. Radio power button would probably work too.

Yes - but unfortunately that page is in the dealer's Service Book and they're the only people that can do it.

You are actually powering up the unit by inserting the card. It should play for approx one hour, Next time you are cleaning your car take the keys out and turn on the stereo, When it shuts off you know you have been an hour cleaning it emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Well my local dealer in Dartford is not aware of any update. Does anybody know of a dealer that is aware of the update and can flash the latest firmware. Getting really fed up with the painfully slow sd card. If not will have to try Danish Vikings program.
