Bolero - my SD card works perfectly!

Featured Replies

IIRC - I believe it's made by Blaupunkt, whereas the Columbus is made by VDO Continental (formally Siemens VDO).

Maybe Blaupunkt should be contacted with a query ?

As i said - I may be wrong..

Out of interest what is the best way to layout the music on the SD card? Can you have folders per group with album folders in it? Do you need to title each album folder by group, album title .i.e. - Pink Floyd, The Wall?

I want to prep a SD card ready for new car turning up but want to get it right.

Any help would be grateful.

You can lay out the card any way you like. The Bolero allows you to navigate up and down the folder structure much like on a computer, plus you can either touch the folder name to go into it, or touch a 'play' button next to the folder to play everything in that folder.

I've got mine laid out like this:

/speech/

/speech/blah/

/speech/blah/something.mp3

/music/

/music/pop/

/music/pop/artist/

/music/pop/artist/album/

/music/pop/artist/album/track.mp3

/music/classical/

/music/classical/album/

... etc ...

So I can go to "pop" and play all my pop music, or go to an artist and play everything by that artist, or go to a specific album and play that.

I've divided it up into speech (podcasts, audio books, etc), pop music and classical music, as I tend to be in the mood for one of those 3 types of audio.

Nice one thank you for the info Rich

i have a 10 plate octi, my belero seems ok with my 16gb class 6 card, as long as i dont fill it up, also tried the secret menu and all i get is the fm/am menu, no matter how long i hold the setup button down.

Actually it is VERY easy to find the firmware version...

Just enter the SECRET MENU on the Bolero...

Push the setup button and keep pushing it

First you will get to a menu with a fm and a am button.

DONT let go of the setup button.

Then you will enter THE SECRET MENU, where the first menu item is: version info.

There you can see SW version and HW version :0)

Btw: my info on the bolero is:

HW index: 009

SW index: 0053

SW version: 08.11 / 0801

Bootloader version: 01.02

I've tried this too & got nowhere! No secret menus or system info.emoticon-0138-thinking.gif

I think that its REALLY strange that it works perfect on mine and not on yours???

I will post some pictures later for the non believers :0)

Is yours one of the newer Boleros that the SD card works on? Maybe it only works on the newer ones as I have one with the poor SD card response and holding the setup button down doesn't get past the Radio Service menu...

I tried mine and can't access the menu either!

Is it best to buy a SDHC faster than a class 2 for music? I wouldn’t have thought so I know you benefit for cameras etc but mp3 music?

The higher the speed of the card the better, especially as with a C2 16Gb card you can be waiting a good 2hrs for all of the music to copy over from PC to card.

I've got a 16Gb C4 & 16Gb C6 card & they get written to a lot quicker than the poxy C2 card, which now stays in the PC as a "Speedboost" card, the C6 stays in a camera, the C4 is a spare for a camcorder as I don't use the SD card system.

Ok thanks, I'm not worried about transfer speed it's speed when in the Car system.

Like I said it's the waiting time from PC to SD card that the problem lies. Reading the card usually isn't too much of a problem, saying that when I tried it, it took over 5 mins only to find nothing on the card which had just been filled with 2,200 tracks at the time.

So I stand by what I've said all along and that the file handling on it is absolute crap.

Right o, I've got a 4GB class 2 here at home so when I take delivery of the car on Wednesday I'll try that first before ordering a 16GB.......

You should find that it'll start quick enough but as the card fills up it gets slower & s..l..o..w..e..r & s...l...o...w...e...r!

Maybe a fault in the user.exe file Warren? ;)

Gyp - I think you've gone way OTT in buying that.

No delay in finding stuff or writing to it though! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I'm beginning to suspect that, though I'm eternally optimsitic :(

I've been using an 8Gb C2 card - it's absolutely spot on! There is no delay in reading the card from my Bolero, sound quality is good (@320Kbps) and I can get enough albums on it to amuse me for weeks. And they're only a tenner delivered from Amazon.

Yes - Sandisk - never had a problem with Sandisk cards. 8Gb was £10.79 on Amazon I think.

Well, I said I'd report back when I got my car, but I'm struggling to get decent timings.

Unfortunately my timing device only goes up to December 2010. Has anyone got a timing device for 2011 so I can get an accurate reading?
